I am looking for some fairly casual Pathfinder play in North Houston. Between work, a wife, 2 kids and other hobbies I can’t keep the pace the guys I have been playing with keep and I hate popping in every 3-4 games. I do best on weekend evenings but life keeps me from doing more than once every 3-4 weeks.

I am interested in a casual game. I live in the Conroe area. Casual is good, I am fairly new to role playing having just started with my boys last summer. Now they are off to school and I am suffering serious RPG withdrawal. We started out with 3.5 but I am slowly convincing the rest of my family to make the switch to Pathfinder.

If you don't mind a drive, we have a group that meets every Sunday at Asgard Games off of 59 & Kirby @ 1pm. We rotate three different campaigns.
The first weekend of the month is Game 'A', currently level 3 exploring Darkwood Vale via the Pathfinder Modules. But I think the GM is looking at starting with something new.
Game 'B' is all weekends not covered by A or C. This is a Second Darkness AP campaign. We're about halfway through book 4, but this probably meets too often for your needs.
Game 'C' is a Pathfinder Society weekend. Last weekend of the month. Most of us are in the level 3-4 range, but there are a few who have started recently still in 1-2. We have also taken to running multiple groups as needed so as not to turn anyone away.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but that’s what I am avoiding. The group I have played with is much the same as your group in that they run 3-4 different games during different weeks. While I am not saying it is true for your group, the guys I play with tend to care a bit less about their characters, and have a harder time keeping the story flowing, constantly talk so much about their multiple games that sometimes they even get stuff confused (I tend to live in confusion due to this), and it all looks to stem back to how many games they are in, and how often they play.
I know there must be older, busy, married guys like me out there who want a good solid game but can’t keep pace with most groups out there. So if you are a gamer out there who just can’t play the game as often as you did when you were twenty something, I am here to tell you there are more like you out there

I am in Spring not far off of 45 so that may work out well. Lets see if we can get more interest here and then we can move off the boards to e-mail.

Not a problem, I live on the North side too, so I understand that the drive is a bit far, I was just tossing the option out there.
In fact, Selgard and I are practically neighbors. So, I'll toss my hat in the ring, with the caveat that my weekends run a bit tight, so I may not be able to commit. Depending on the when/where you settle on.

I am definitely interested in pathfinder. Since I am still fairly new, I prefer to be a player for our first campaign. However, assuming things go well, I am definitely interested in GMing in the future. Perhaps we can rotate the GM duties periodically to avoid burnout.
Weekdays are ok as long as we start around 7 pm. I work about 1.5 hours away from the woodland area. (Live about 30 minutes away).

I tend to have alot of books, but have little to no experience DM'ing any sort of game.
Friday or Saturday evenings would be preferred to me, given a typical 8-5'ish work schedule during the week and a relatively busy sunday.
Am sure we can work something out though.
-S
I have DM'd a good bit in my time but I lack the time to prep for it anymore. The few games I have tried to run in the last 3 years fizzled mostly due to me not having time to prep for games.
Maybe if we give this thread more time we will find the guy out there saying "man I wish I had some guys to play a PF game I want to run once per month"
I am good on Friday and Sat nights as well. They do vary as to when I am open, but I know about a month out where I am free.
Last question would be where to game. I have 2 reasons that are 4 and 1 year old why my place is out, and North Houston has lost all of the game stores that I know of. Any suggestions?

There is a game store in the Woodlands that I have visited a few times recently. Its called Fat Ogre Games. Here is a link to their website
They have some nice gaming areas. No membership fee, they just ask that you buy your books, dice, minis and drinks from them to support the store.
It would be centrally located for everyone. I also heard from the people at the store that there was someone else interested in a pathfinder game there. I posted a game request on their forum earlier in the month but haven't gotten any nibbles.
If you want, I can contact them about slot openings.
If everyone is patient with a new GM, I could do it. I've been reading PF material quite extensively.
Finally, Friday or Saturday night would work best for me.

I am more than patient with anyone willing to DM.
I am good with Fat Ogre, I forgot all about them.
As long as you guys are cool with this being an every 3-4 week thing I Think we have a group. I may have one other guy from another forum as well.

Every 3 - 4 weeks is fine with me. I will contact Fat Ogre and see if they have any slots available Friday or Saturday.

Fat Ogre is a great store. Along with the gaming areas you have seen they are also working on a sound proofed room that will be rental based, but last time I was there they hadn't figured out the pricing yet. I don't expect it will be outrageous though.
Also I doubt they will have space on Friday, they do Magic and Warhammer 40k. Which sucks because that would be the best night for me. Then again, if they get the SP Room done...

Selgard |

Yeah, I have to do my shopping at Fat Ogre.. I prefer to support a local joint to buying online, and they've treated me right so far. My collection of Pathfinder so far, comes from them.
Once a month is fine.. More often is fine, as well.
I moved here from Beaumont Texas.. the FLGS there is basically a warehouse, the floor of which is just covered in boxes and bookcases of all manner of comic books and nearly every RPG ever published it seems.
About the only thing I miss about that town actually :)

Because like you they are not right in the head. Which means somewhere inside I must be like you too. Must come from the many years of living together.

Aberzombie won't game with us, the 23 hour drive would kill him. he is just my older brother, former roommate, daughters godfather, 20+ year gaming companion, and I was the best man in his wedding so we bicker alot. Now if he ever comes to Houston (he has once in the 4.5 years I have lived here) maybe he will sit in on a game.

I almost wish I still lived up in Spring, guys! Most of my friends who were into table top gaming still live there or in The Woodlands, but they're mostly into miniatures war gaming, now. They also shop at Fat Ogre and another place called (I think) Little Wars on Kuykendahl.
Anyway, I moved down to Montrose about seven years ago, and I recently joined a gaming group that I met through these forums. It's a shame I hate driving on I-45, because a once-a-month game sounds like a good addition to my gaming time.
Good luck and I hope your group works out, guys!

I live near Little Wars, nice guys but it is really just a Mini war gaming place.
if any of your friends are looking to play point them in our direction

I have not received any response from Fat Ogre. I'm tied up with visitors this week at work so I can't make it to the store until possibly this weekend to inquire in person. Any o
ther suggestions for a venue that is centrally located?
I may try to run by Little wars and see if they would have an open table on Friday nights. I also have a buddy who may be interested in playing and he knows the guys at Little Wars.
I will check with both and see.

Greetings, fellow Houstonians.
Can't really say that I'm able to join or run games, considering the only times I can do so is on a Monday and I'm already alternating between running and playing every other week with one group, and running the occasional Sunday game with my roommate and a different gaming group.
I live in the 1960 and 290 part of town, but game on Mondays at 249 and 1960.
At the moment, my work schedule is a *****, barely able to run my game on Mondays and skip out on playing, but I have to say, Council of Thieves is pretty good about allowing me to smack around some powergamers (poisoned silverware that keeps the Bastards of Erebus always on their toes).
Bahahahaha!

I miss my store. I regret not managing it myself and lost my investment with a bad manager.

I went to Tri-Games once.
I drove by it one day and went back a week later to shop and the doors were chained. I was sad. :\
Same thing happened to the next store i went to. Made me abit leery to find another, to be honest.
Pity too. Tri-games is about 2 minutes from my front door.
-S
I was at Tri-games atleast 4 days per week. They would open by 11 so I could spend part of my lunch there most days. I play there a good bit, the day the doors were closed was kind of sad, I helped one of the owners move the stuff out and into his garage. I still keep in touch with many folks I got to know there. RIP Tri-Games maybe one day JR and team can come back to us.

So I think I got us another player, but he will not be available on Friday nights until after May 1st. He is a seasoned player of D&D, war games, and several other systems but I do not think he has played pathfinder. He knows the guys at Little Wars so we may be able to get a table there.
So that would make, Lebreton, Selgard, Tordek, Wolfthulhu, and John (not on this thread) I think we may have a group.
Tordek are you still up to running the game?
Do we want to move discussion off of this board to another one, start a yahoo group, or find another way to communicate? I am not sure if this is the right forum to discuss an on going game, but we can keep it alive to find new players as needed.
Did we maybe want to pick a time, date, place to meet up one night and chat about the game?

Yes I am. Although after GMing a one shot session with my two boys last weekend, I have a lot to learn about creating a mood. <Although, I did cleverly thwart the rogue's house breaking attempts>
As far as other forums for communicating, I started a free account at Obsidian Portal a while back. That may be good host for game notes, communication etc. I'll explore further.
Starting after May 1st works for me, this month is extremely busy for me at work. In the mean time, I would be open to meeting up sometime this month to explore interests, select a game, etc. Perhaps, some restaurant near Spring. Based on the discussion, it would give me some time to prep for May. The week of April 19th is very bad for me because of an audit but sometime this coming week is good. I can't get to Spring until at least 6:30 on week nights.

I wouldn't worry about that. The Gamer in Houston thread is pushing 30 pages now and it covers everything from game stuff to personal life stuff and most anything else you can think of.

Thursday would be good for me, it would be about 6:30-7 for me as well as I work late on Thursdays. Do we want to meet at a starbucks or something like that? I will check with my buddy John to see is he can make it.
On another note, I spoke to one of the guys at Little wars and he said Friday nights are very busy for them so I think that may be out. Any news on Fat ogre?

Thursday it is. Let's make it 6:30 pm. Just give me an address of where you all want to meet.
Still nothing from Fat Ogre - I'll try to stop by there before Thursday and ask again.
I see on the Little Wars website that Wednesday is their OPEN RPG night (although that may not work for Selgard - I think he is busy on Wednesdays.

The owner suggested Wed. or Sunday to me, but both are bad for me as well as Selgard.
How about we call for the StarBucks at
25111 Grogans Mill Road
Spring, TX 77380-3290
This looks from the map to be near Fat Ogre so we all judge drive times to the game if that is where we end up playing at.
I will be more like 6:45 as I will be at the office until 5ish and the drive home can take an hour.

Since our 1st meeting is delayed, I thought we could begin discussing what you are looking for in a campaign in this thread. In order to get off to a quicker start, and since I am still new at GMing, I prefer to begin with a published campaign.
One idea is an adventure path. I started subscribing with the start of the Kingmaker AP so that is one idea. Also, I found a used copy of the 1st Rise of the Runelords AP. I should receive Issues #1, 31 and 32 within the next week or so. If you have already played Runelords we can do something else.
On the other hand, it doesn't have to be an AP. I'm open to modules or other sources. Also, the original material can be 3.5 or Pathfinder. (I don't mind converting material to Pathfinder because it helps me learn all the rules quicker.)
What are your thoughts?

![]() |

You mean you don't want to hit the ground running with Kingmaker? : )
I would love to do an AP, and Rune lords would be fine. I had all of that AP when they came out but a buddy of mine borrowed them to run his game and I have not seen them since. I never had time to run them so I never asked for them back. I can see if he has them still and get them to you is he does.
We can also try some of the modules PF has put out, my brother was telling me about a series that starts with Hollow’s Last Hope, moves on to Crown of the Kobald King, Revenge of the Kobold King, and some others set in the same area. Maybe we can start with some characters running from say 1-7 so that you can get your feet wet and we can all see each others play styles. If you then want to try an AP we can move into one.
Here is the link to the first module
http://paizo.com/pathfinder/pathfinderModules/35E/v5748btpy82qz
Any way you choose to go, I am more than willing to pay some of the cost for the material you buy. I know getting everything together can cost some so I have no issue putting in.
I also have several things I have picked up in print and PDF I would be willing to give you to use.
George

If I remember correctly, it goes - Hollow's Last Hope, Crown of the Kobold King, Revenge of the Kobold King, and Hungry are the Dead. I think there's a little gap between Crown and Revenge, however, which you might need to fill out. And keep in mind, these are 3.5 Adventures, so some conversion would be necessary.
Alternatively, also in the getting-the-feet-wet department, there is the recent Price of Immortality trilogy, consisting of Crypt of the Everflame, Masks of the Living God, and the soon to be released City of Golden Death. These take PCs from 1st level all the way up through about 7th or so, and are done to the PFRPG rules. I'm running my own group through this right now, and plan to maybe take them into Ustalav afterwards to run a converted Expedition to Castle Ravenloft.
I also happen to know that one of you will soon be getting a copy of Masks of the Living God that a cetain undead horror accidently ordered an extra copy of.

![]() |

I'm already playing in a Kingmaker game, but have never done Rise of the Runelords.
Also, if everyone has Society characters, I would be willing to run some PFS games. Maybe as a fill in until we decide what we want to do long term.
I would love to do some PFS, I have not made a character for it yet but I have been reading about it. As a matter of fact I was speaking to the guy at Little Wars about it and he said if anyone wanted to run there on some of the slower nights he would put it on the calendar
