'Mission: Impossible' star Peter Graves dies in LA

"Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?"

R.I.P. dude.

"Joey, you ever been to a Turkish prison?"

Genius...sheer, unadulterated genius...

He will be missed.

I got upset reading this.

Damn it. He's part of the B-Movie pantheon that formed my childhood. This is like losing Vincent Price.

God bless ya, Pate. You were the greatest straightman ever.

What!? How did I miss this? RIP Peter.

Have you ever seen your mother getting out of the shower, the water beading on her skin?
R.I.P, friend.

Why I dislike MTV anymore

I found this because I was looking for an interview that Graves did on the Mission: Impossible movies and how upset he was that they made Phelps a double agent.

The MTV article irks me because they turned Peter Graves' death into a hype about Tom Cruise and Mission Impossible IV. Not just epic fail, but epic fail with bad taste.

He learned almost too late that man is a feeling creature… and, because of it, the greatest in the universe. He learned too late for himself that men have to find their own way, to make their own mistakes. There can't be any gift of perfection from outside ourselves. And when men seek such perfection… they find only death… fire… loss… disillusionment… the end of everything that's gone forward. Men have always sought an end to the toil and misery, but it can't be given, it has to be achieved. There is hope, but it has to come from inside — from man himself.

So long, Pete.

+1

Other venues are doing full articles on his death, whereas in the MTV article it is nothing more than a blurb, one you might miss if you were skimming. That's in very poor taste.

The Yahoo article, on the other hand, is very enlightening. I didn't know that he and James Arness were brothers.

I hate to say it, but this truly was the first thing I thought of when I heard the news.

Also, thirding the burning hatred for MTV's handling of the news.
