Teamwork Feats.... Why?!??!

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I know the playtest is over so this thread may fall on deaf ears or be locked, but could someone please explain to me why some classes have bonus feats limited to "teamwork feats"?

I mean seriously, what about a Cavalier and a Inquisitor makes you assume they are better when working in groups. So you are telling me we have to plan not only our own feats, but hopefully one of our role-playing buddies will take the same exact feats just to get some use out of one of our class abilities.

I don't understand why they couldn't just get bonus martial feats. It almost seems as if they wanted to force someone to take these new teamwork feats because otherwise almost no one would bother.

What's your take?

Other than the precise strike and the additional flanking bonus, the teamwork feats leave a lot to be desired.

EDIT: Please don't bother with the classic line "If you don't like it play your own game."; "Why don't you try designing the game?" If you have nothing to contribute just leave it alone. I love this game, just seemed like the teamwork thing was a bit of a stretch.

Both the Cavalier and Inquisitor get abilities to allow them to use their teamwork feats even if their allies do not have them. So other people get a benefit from the Inquisitor or Cavalier's teamwork feats, since that means they can expect at least 1 party member to also have some (if there is 1 of those 2 classes), but those classes are not penalized for other people not taking the feats.

There has been a lot of discussion of whether or not these feats are worth it for other classes. Many people say they will use them because they design their characters with their teammates in mind. I personally think this is a good thing.

Damn. Ninja'd.

Doesn't the Inquisitor benefit from Tactical Feats without teammates having them?

That is correct. But only he benefits though.

I must have missed that when reading through the classes. I agree that no other class would take them,. if not required.

BTW I'm thinking of my teammates when I take Power Attack, and I don't need anyone else to take that feat. I don't see how a teamwork feat helps any more than the next.

There is a difference between taking a feat that works, or even taking one that helps the party, and taking a feat that actively encourages you to work with your teamates. Teamwork feats require teamwork for the most part even if your teamate doesnt have to have the feat, he/she has to be involved somehow. That is a good kind of gaming and strategy to employ because not only is it often more successful then a bunch of people soloing together, but it also means people are more likely to all have fun together, then a few hogging the spotlight.

I think Teamwork Feats might be most useful for classes that have sturdy companions--notably the druid and the summoner; possibly the paladin as well. Both the character and his companion take the same Teamwork Feat to enhance their abilities, since they are generally fighting together anyway.

I'm not sure how well they fit thematically with the Cavalier and Inquisitor, though; both classes seem a bit individualistic for something like this. Fighters, paladins, and rogues seem like a better fit thematically for them.

It would be nice if there was some cumulative benefit for taking multiple Teamwork Feats; e.g., the bonuses scale if you have multiple feats of this type. Otherwise, I agree that there's only one or two that are really worth taking, given the plethora of other good feats to choose from.
