Trouble over at the KQ Ranch?

Product Discussion

First, yesterday I noticed that Monster Monday's blog disappeared (the Bloodling). Then today, the site is down. Have gnomes invaded our favorite kobold mines and kidnapped their King of kings? Commence wild speculation.

Unfortunately it seems their site goes down... a lot. This is I think the second time in a week its been down.

From what I understand, it's in issue on the ISP end ...

Yes, it's been bad lately, and we're migrating to a new hosting company in the near future if I'm not confident of a fix.

Last week they did a performance upgrade, what is this week's excuse?

More power to ya. In this economy, everybody's competing for good customers. If your current hosting company doesn't satisfy you -- cut 'em loose. They don't deserve the business.

Might I recommend Google Sites?

  • 100% uptime
  • Massive scalability
  • Free hosting
  • GUI editing for non-techies
  • Many advanced features

Just saying it works well for d20pfsrd.com and you can use any of hundreds of design templates or make a new one. You can tie it into databases, embed Google Docs and Forms...

Lots of nifty bells and whistles, and oh by the way did I mention its free?

Anyway, hope to see the site back up soon!

But can you sell stuff at google? Because KQ is a business and Wolfgang wants to create revenue streams etc etc.

Sure you can. Google couldn't care less what you do with the sites... so long as its not spam.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I'll consider Google sites, though I have two other candidates who may fit my bandwidth/database requirements as well or better.

FYI - the site is back up!

The Bloodling is still MIA, but all kinds of new stuff is up. :)

I can imagine that the database requirements might be a concern but I suspect bandwidth shouldn't be. Google Sites scales massively. I have a contact who is an engineer with Google Sites and he has confirmed that d20pfsrd.com should be able to sustain a simultaneous Digging & Slashdotting. I've yet to test that theory but its nice to hear either way.

It's down again. Hope it's just a blip on the radar...

They recently hired a former UAC Space Marine. Guy cut his teeth on Mars, and he REALLY FREAKING HATES you flaming skulls. He hates Imps, too... shoulda seen what was left of Old Scratch after he tried to get into the server.

No, I take that back, you shouldn't have seen it. Would give even pseudodemons like yourself some pretty bad nightmares.
