“Deep in the forest, something is stirring. An evil fey sorcerer, cast out of the First World millennia ago by her own kin, has found a way to break through the ancient walls of her prison, and carries with her a vengeance too deep to be sated. For the quiet Andoren town of Bellis, busy celebrating a long-awaited marriage, it's a time for joy and laughter. Yet the forest that's always sheltered it is growing dark, and things are moving in the heart of the woods... "

=======================================================================

-This is a PBP for a group of three to five players. Recruitment for this game will be handled differently: players need to submit their characters as part of a group of other players. In other words, I'd like you to hook up with your friends and come up with a party, and play the game together.

- Proposals are not accepted on a first come first serve basis.

- Proposals will be evaluated on how whether players have given some thought to party balance, how complete and accurate the individual character sheets are, and how interesting the party and PC backgrounds are.

- Party backgrounds do not have to be in-depth histories. About two short paragraphs is what I'm looking for.

- Same with PC backgrounds. About one short paragraph.

-A character is considered to have been submitted when an applicant posts in this thread in his PC's alias, with a character sheet in the profile.

-A party is considered to have submitted when all the characters have been submitted and one of the applicants have posted the party name, party membership and history on this thread.

-Each individual applicant should only belong to one group.

-Character sheets can be of any ad hoc format.

-Level 7

-20-point-buy for ability scores.

-Pathfinder standard wealth for 7th level characters.

-Standard races.

- Multiclass characters are fine.

-Advanced Player's Guide test classes are fine.

-It's OK, even encouraged, for players to use characters from previous games. But there's no "carry over". You'll have to stick to the character requirements listed above.

-Our main objective here is to actually finish an adventure, whether it be a successful conclusion or a bloody TPK. The expected posting rate is at least once per day.

-Absences are fine if warned ahead of time (no explanation necessary.)

-Tentative application cutoff will be the end of Sunday, March 14th.

You can also use this thread to find folks to form a party with.

Any folks out there want to form a party?

Hi Memento,

This sounds like fun. I'd be interested in joining your party.

I think I might try a martial class. Maybe a paladin. I'll have to read about the adventure a bit more though.

What did you have in mind?

I'm interested. I'd like to fill either Ranger, Rogue, or Wizard roles.

I'm tempted, and would really like to try out one of the new APG classes, but need to resist overextending myself. I will, however, keep any eye on this thread.

Here is a sorceror build with a clean history that I created for another game. I need to check the point buy, but I can have her history done in no time, if anyone wants to party up.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16

I'd be interested. I have a gnome cleric (of Shelyn or Gozreh)(possibly with a level or two of bard, possibly not) that might fit well with Lilia; we're Diminutive, we're Damned Cute, and we're Dangerous.

Tentatively, he has spent the majority of his career in Absalom.

MoFiddy checking in.

Chris...I like the Absalom hook for your character. I believe that the Pathfinder Grand Lodge is located in Absalom. Perhaps the party could be Pathfinder members on a mission. The missions of course is investigating the Fellnight Queen.

Here is my character's initial background. I can always tweak it to fit with the party.

Sarek Tull is a paladin who worships Iomedae. His parents are former slaves who were freed by Andoran Pathfinder Society members and the emigrated to Andora for a better life. Sarek grew up in the capital city of Almas.

He grew up tall and strong. His parents were very religious people and passed this along to Sarek. He found his calling as a warrior in the service of his families diety Iomedae. He has spent several years adventuring, trying to emulate the Pathfinders who freed his parents.

I'd love to... I was thinking in terms of a Druid or Fey oriented Witch.

(squee!) The Pathfinder Society! I love the Pathfinders!

(more soberly) Of course, they wouldn't let me join. Not since ... that incident during training. (Pish posh. Nothing was permanently damaged, and that puffball Venture-Captain Esmayl ibn Qaradi needed to be taken down a peg or two.) (I understand he got assigned to some backwater post in the wastelands of Qadira. Squee!)

I'm thinking i'd like to play a bard.
I like the idea of being a group of pathfinders, and it is certainly the easiest way to link us together.

I'll give Lilia a pathfinder society background this evening...

Actually, he did, huffing and puffing around the chapterhouse, sending Pathfinders and aspirants alike scurrying for cover against his ham-fisted arrogance. Most of his victims, and over half the other Venture Captains, would have suppressed chuckles and added a little note to the gnome's permanent record, but ibn Qaradi was furious, and, in the end, it came down to principle: not even third-year aspirants should set practical jokes for a Venture Captain.

Instead, Thediar Rosecloak has found a calling as a negotiator, particularly when people have come to quarrel with a cabal of blood-drenched druids, a peeved dryad, or a self-styled oracle of nature. As he is himself a cleric of Gozreh, he has some credibility with nature's other champions, and he seeks to find a path that most disputants can live with, in the long run.

Which isn't to say that his arrangements never ended up far to the disadvantage of ill-willed or greedy folks, much to their surprise. Gnomish humor is hard to suppress entirely.

That sounds awesome, Chris. Lilia will no doubt find the gnome to be hilarious. Maybe to the detriment of a possible party! Her lack of wisdom would be played as pretty goofy/spacey.

Hey, JZ! We seem to have our party.

(TheChozyn) ranger, rogue, or wizard.

(LazarX) druid or fey-oriented witch.

(Memento Mori): bard

Sarek Tull (Mo Fiddly): paladin

Lilia Stinisen (Gerald): halfling sorcerer

Thediar (Chris Mortika): gnome cleric of Gozreh

And the bard, paladin, sorcerer and cleric are indeed such pretty people.

Good news, but five players is the limit for a party. Other potential parties will have to be formed.

There's no need to drop out of the running. You can form another party, if you want.

Lilia is ready with a small background listed. I can enhance it as necessary depending on how tight we want to make it with regards to knowing the others.

Grand Lodge

I'm leaning a bit more towards the Witch espcially if Chozen decides to play one of his melee choices. Probably half-elven, possibly elf.

Chozen has stepped aside. Right now, our candidate group has a halfling sorcerer, a bard, a paladin, a gnome cleric, and you.

Hi guys,

Just checking in. I'll update my profile with gear, background, etc. tonight. It's been crazy at work yesterday and today.

I like our party makeup. LazarX's witch sounds good too. I haven't seen one of those in action yet.

Just updated my profile. I still need to finish updating my gear.

So we need a name for our party, right? I'll throw out a couple...

Looks like there are three of us ready to roll, but the others haven't posted for a while. We could use a sneaky type for sure.

Yeah I'm gonna drop this one

I find myself lacking in the want to actually create a character. Sorry guys

Lilia grew up in a Halfling village; Sarek, in Andoran; and I grew up on the island city of Absalom, although I've traveled quite a bit of late. So, how did we meet?

How about:

Spoiler:
Late last autumn, when the days had grown short and the nights cold, Venture Captain Adril Hestram found himself, quite suddenly, standing in the anteroom of the Decemvirate's meeting chamber, the door to the great hall slightly ajar. Glancing above him, he saw the ring of magical energy flicker and, looking down, the engraved glyphs in the marble tiles. Outside the small windows to his left and right, the sun had set over Absalom, and lanterns were lit all over the city.

"By who's hand have been called?" asked the Venture Captain, respectfully.

There was no answer. Hestram waited. "Then why have I been called?"

After perhaps a minute, a voice spoke up from behind the half-opened door, its owner hidden from view. "This is a private matter, not suitable for Society business."

There was nothing to say, so Hestram waited for the voice to continue. "You are in Oregent, in Andoran?"

"I was, till I was summoned here."

"And you will return there, once the spell fades. A Chelaxian merchant and his entourage are staying at the Twin Oaks inn there. His personal slave, a man named Hiphegenus, is to be freed and placed on a swift ship to safety in Elidir, armed and with enough coin and goods to sustain him.

"This must happen before sunrise, and no Pathfinder must know of your part in it. My solemn word depends on that."

Hestram nodded. "It will be as you say." And the spell reached the end of its power, and he returned, instantly, to his quarters in Oregent. Immediately, he got to work, calling for runners to take messages to some allies he knew in the area.

So, we did a favor for somebody in the Society, and we found it easy to work together in a group. How does that sound?

That sounds fine with me, Chris. I can work with that.

If we wanted something else, I would be completely fine with re-writing her background as well.

I´d like to submitt a ranger,
see if I can hash him out and post asap

Janus´s shady past took a swift turn when he was shown the error of his way by his Iomadae cleric prison jailor and converted to the faith.
Never one for direct confrontation he found his place in the ranks of the eagle knights with quick feet, a soft step and sharp eyes. His service with the knights has mostly been in the forested, fey-rich, northern regions of Andoran.
In his travels he met many pathfinder and was quick to aid them when he could as he always found them a facinating and surprisingly recoursfull lot.

I keep thinking about the 1985 Legion of Substitute Heroes special.

"Hopeless Goobers Fooling Themselves"
"Certainly Doomed to Die, Inc."

More seriously, having a name for the group suggests a collective identity. We, as a group, are known. If we're mercenaries, we might be known by the major charge on our heraldry. Maybe something like the Blue Oak Company, or the Companions of the Pean Squirrel.

I've pictured Thediar as more a diplomat who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty, rather than a mercenary soldier, or even explorer of lost mysteries. Where do all of you see yourselves fitting in?

--+--+--

Sigz, are you asking to join the Thediar/Liliar/Sarek/(LazarX) team proposal, or trying to get one started with TheChozyn?

Ylera, Lady of the Fens should be done this weekend.

I have always pictured Lilia as sort of the explorer you describe, combining the halfling wanderlust, exploring mysteries, the world, finding out more about her powers, and having a fun time doing it. I don't picture her as a merc, at all.

Hi Janus,

I noticed that you have a PFS number. I don't think this is official PFS play. We are just using the Pathfinder Society to tie our characters together.

Also, I think your hit points are off. I don't know which is your favored class.

Sarek is not a mercenary. He joined/aspires to join the Pathfinders because he holds them is such high esteem for rescuing his parents from slavery. His parents were not vengeful people, so he doesn't feel a need to slay every slaver...more of a duty to serve. Since the Pathfinders served his family, he wants to serve them. He also sees opportunity to help other people while in their service.

Hello ppl.
Was hoping to join the existing group, sounds fun.
Was trying with the background to open up posibilitys for connections with all of you.
But I agree that a named group is more than a bunch of ppl who have just met, they have history.
My character works fine either as an experienced pathfinder or as an experienced scout in the service of armys or some lord (hint to the paladin)

my HP are by PFS guide (8+5 for Rogue+ 10+6+6+6+6 for ranger +14 for con =61) and my favored class is ranger and I went for the skill point.

Edit: sorry just went through the sheet and I see now that I went for the HP with favored class so that makes 61 + 5 = 66, my bad.

Janus´s favord class is ranger becouse he never fellt comfortable with thieving and found his calling in life as a hunter/traker

Will go through the sheet an see if I can make it clearer.

Lilia, Thediar is happy to accompany you as you explore the mysteries of the lands; squee! But if anybody asked him what he did "for a living", he'd explain that he's a hired negotiator, who spends a lot of holiday time exploring forgotten mysteries, rather than a professional adventurer.

I expect that, given the amount of enthusiasm the Pathfinder Society has for shouldering into places that have been left undisturbed for centuries, sometimes with good reason, that he has negotiated between the Society and local communities on several occasions.

Sarek, the Pathfinder Society sends virtually all of their aspirants through a three-year training school in Absalom. Is that a process you've been through, to earn the title "Pathfinder"? Or are you happier to serve the Society as an auxilliary member, like Thediar, as someone they call on for help, but whom they don't send on explore-and-recover missions?

I am going to be checking in less frequently for the next week, probably only once per day. I'm on vacation at a renaissance re-enactment event down in Misissippi.

Yes. Thediar doesn't have Action Points, or 1/day luck powers, or any other mechanics that require decisions in combat, so you always have my permission to roll for him. More to the point, you have my permission to select spells for the character if we need them this week.

Spoiler:

Thediar is loathe to petition Gozreh for "the same, boring" selection of spells each day. Rather, he considers it part of his duties to reflect upon what challenges each day might bring, and prepares magic appropriately. He often leaves a spell-slot or two empty. And, observe, he channels negative energy, so he might prepare a healing spell in a 3rd-level slot, for battlefield emergencies when a wand of cure light wounds isn't fast enough.

Emerging from the deep shadows of the fey haunted forest, Janus is ready for the chalanges that face him and his companions.

OK, once LazarX has got his character done, we can proceed.

I'm not going to ask for a party background, as there are no other groups to compare with.

A party name would still be nice.
