Random Encounter Tables

Shadow Lodge

Does anyone know of any websites or products, or have homebrewed material, with some nice random encounter tables? Encounter might not be the right word; Id like tables of random THINGS and not just combat encounters, to spice up overland travel. Stuff like "You see a small creek with a broken bridge over it" or "you come across a ruined field, the site of a recent battle". Of course combat encounters can and would be involved as well. Im wanting to experiment with these in my next GMing session. Id like to run a sand-boxy type session, and use them as things to potentially draw in my players and give me a jumping off point. Ive never had the patience nor creativity to come up with these tables myself. Any leads would be awesome, thanks in advanced!

It's kind of a mess at the moment but you might be able to use some of this stuff.

It's long out of print, but the "Mother of All Encounter Tables" (written by yours truly, via Necromancer Games) is a 3e hardback of encounter tables. It included monster encounters for five different climate types and all different terrain types, and distinguished between day and night; however, it also included extensive non-monster encounters, a caravan generator, a quick NPC party generator, weather based encounters, etc. Most of it should be easily adaptable to Pathfinder. I imagine it should still be findable with a little Google-Fu.

The Ultimate Toolbox is great for all things random. It's systemless so you're not going to get specific monster encounters and things, but it's FANTASTIC for generating scenes, stories, item and character descriptions, etc.

For online randomness (also systemless) check out Seventh Sanctum.

d20- That is a nice table with the weather, and a starting point to what I was looking for. Thanks for the link. LOVE the sire, btw. My online resource for all things Pathfinder, not sure how I missed that table :)

The other ones sound a bit more in line with what I was going for, just random EVENTS and SCENES, not so much combat encounters. I will start my google-fu and have a look to see if I can find those. Thanks for the tips.

Kabump -- couldn't find it earlier, but here's the Ultimate Toolbox at the Paizo Store:

Discussion thread also says there's a .pdf available at RPGNow.

Both of those look AWESOME, and exactly what I was looking for. Grabbed a PDF copy from RPGNow, 12 bucks is in my current budget, an extra 30 bucks for the ultimate toolbox isn't unfortunately. Oh well, there is always next month :) Thanks again for the leads!

Thanks for the compliments on the site. The encounter tables are something I'd REALLY like to develop in more detail. I think they could be exceptional resources if done right. I just need someone to step up and volunteer to help build them. If I don't get anyone on those soon I'll try to straighten them out. I want to have them all link together and link to the monsters and weather elements etc. It just takes time to do.
