Hoping a mod can merge the threads, but in brief:
HBO filmed a 60-minute pilot episode in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Morocco in October-November 2009. I attended a George RR Martin book-signing and after-party in Belfast in November where some of the cast came along, and met the actors playing Jon, Robb, Theon, Arya, Sansa and Rodrik Cassel, all of whom were very cool. Two weeks ago or so, HBO aired the completed pilot for its top execs. We are now waiting for their decision on whether the project will proceed to series. That verdict will be given to us in the next few weeks, probably the first half of March or so.
At the moment, given the massive amounts of fan-buzz the series has generated (HBO have reported it has generated far more pre-screening internet word-of-mouth than any of their other series to date, including the massive TRUE BLOOD), it looks very likely that the series will be commissioned. If this occurs, filming will resume in the spring and summer and continue through the end of the year. According to HBO, if the series is picked up it will air in March or April of 2011.
