No.

Feats that can be taken multiple times explicitly say so in the feat description (and often have limitations associated with taking them multiple times, such as weapon focus' having to be with a different weapon each time).

This again? No.

In 3.0/3.5 Toughness merely added 3 hit points to your total and you could take it as many times as you wanted. Worthless.

Now it adds +1 HP per HD and can only be taken once. Awesome.

Actually it adds +3m then plus 1 per HD after 3rd level... which equals out the same unless you are levels 1-2, in which case you get a slight boost.

Which is a really simple yet impressive way to have dealt with it. I've used this general concept for other homebrew feats.

My House Rule on Toughness even before PF was 2hp + 1 per HD. It kept the stats on all the War1s the same but made the feat worthwhile.

Personally, I'd let someone take it multiple times. So what if they have a zillion HP ... they're giving up the ability to deal damage or avoid damage for the ability to take damage. If it's worth a Feat slot it's worth a Feat slot, and all Feat Slots are created equal, IMHO.

YMMV,

I am on the fence with this. I was thinking about altering it to allow someone to take it multiple times, using the same reasoning you are (sacrificing a feat slot meaning less damage, less AC, less save, or something similar), but then I figure it was made a certain way for a specific reason.

So, I thought about creating similar feats to the Improved Toughness feat, but you are stuck. Either it would add 1 hp/level or it would get really overpowering, and if you go with the first option, how is that any different than allowing someone to take Toughness more than once.

Quick Poll:
1) In your game, do you allow people to take Toughness more than once?
2a) If you answered no to question 1, what other options does a character have in your games?
2b) How are those options different from just allowing Toughness to be taken more than once?

Thanks everyone!

I've never had a player ask to take toughness more than once, but if they did they likely are low enough on hit points that it's more of a desperation move than a sign of power gaming. If they already have a lot of hit points, then those new hit points aren't doing them much good anyway.
In short: I wouldn't have a problem with someone taking them more than once. At most I'd limit it to one extra time per 5 levels or something (to prevent a level 20 human from taking it 11 times for +220 health, and the cheesiness that comes with it).
