I have to admit, they are. It was a little awkward at first, but once you focus on the fact that everyone there just wants to have a good time(truly, very little goes on in the bathroom unless someone is drunk and/or high), they can be REAL swinging places, especially when there is live entertainment. OF course, if the live entertainment consists of a guy dancing on a pole, that may be disconcerting to some, but now I don't notice it.

Alternative Africa fantasy. I read two or three of the Dossuye tales and the first part of the first Imaro book. I recommend, and am moving towards highly recommend (but feel like I should wait until I actually finish before so moving). I guess its the first real Africanesqe fantasy I've been exposed to other than Tarzan.

Wow. Small world.
Now that you mention it, while at my godmother's house(where I go every Thanksgiving), I recall running into a book that had a very similar pretense- Africa rising up and defeating Rome, turning the entire population into slaves or something like that. My only disappointment(at least from reading the back cover) was that it was more africans-acting-roman and less african culture on the rise with respect to the issue of slavery. But this was ages ago, at least last Thanksgiving if not the one before, and my memory is hazy.

It was specifically one friend I had in college. He was good looking and never had any money, and had no qualms about accepting free drinks and then letting a guy down...
