Was thinking of making it an "Ivory Bar of Soap" made of real ivory, but my character is a dwarf :-)

I meant "stone-shaped piece of soap".
My character isn't a mage, but makes a big deal about being clean (helps with Charisma checks), but a normal piece of soap doesn't survive many encounters.
One time in a desert the soap, melted, and ruined some parchment I had in my backpack...grr.
Or another time I was underwater and my backpack started "foaming" during combat. I had to take off my backpack...grr.
But yeah, I could see nobles or high-end apartments having these as a convenience to their guests.

Unlike most soaps that you can buy at your local grocery store and drug store, a 'basic soap' with no cream or exfoliants and whatever is really hard, and isn't likely to melt unless you put it on a stove. Also, soap does not foam unless you add something in it to make it foam. Companies do that because 'natural' soap would last you three months. This one last three weeks, so they sell more that way.
Soap is actually easy to make. Google a recipe to make your own and see for yourself.
Other than that, the idea is cool and not that far-stretched. All kinds of lava-rock and other porous rock actually clean rather well. I could imagine a dwarvish soap containing several minerals and types of grounded rocks to 1) make it last longer, 2)scrub the hell out of that smithies' grime and 3) give a sexy metallic smell/look for that dwarven date of yours tonight.
