P.E.A.C.H. Spectacles of Well-being

Homebrew and House Rules

So I want to craft an item that will show me the HP status of those around me. It will most likely be based on the spell Status, but I'm not sure of the specifics.

The reason I want this is often to play "RP" I don't necessarily know that my friends are at -15 HP vs. -8 HP, which would determine which spell to heal I cast. What I usually do is do a Heal check and get an 'approximate' hurt level, but that's done outside of combat.

Additionally if an enemy is who was just struck down in combat if I need to exclude him from my Channeling or not (several times I though an enemy was dead from a Perception check, but I channeled only for him to get back up!).

This item also allows me to not to meta game by knowing the HP total of my comrades and keeping track of their damage.

So this is what I have so far:

Spectacles of Well-being

Aura faint divination; CL 5th

Slot eyes; Price 6,000 gp; Weight —

DESCRIPTION

The lenses of this item are made of red crystal. When placed over the eyes of the wearer, they enable him to see how healthy those around him are. For each living creature within view you know the following based on their current Hit Point status:

No Damage - Healthy
-1 to -5 HP - Lightly Wounded
-6 to -15 - Moderately Wounded
-16 to -30 - Seriously Wounded
-31+ - Critically Wounded

When you view dying creature you know the following based on how many close they are to death:

At 0 HP - Staggered
-1 to -5 HP - Dying
-6 to -10 HP - Near Death
-11+ - Close to Death
or Dead

Creatures that have no Constitution score give no status. The lenses do not give the status of creature that are otherwise hidden or obscured from the viewer in some way. Both lenses must be worn for the magic to be effective.

Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, status; Cost 3,000 gp

Requirements Craft Wondrous...

IT'S OVER 9000!!!!!!

Sorry I couldn't resist

Anyway on topic, These sound like a pretty cool idea I may have to show this to my current GM.

Might need to be based on how much damage they have taken in fractions (say 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and such). 31 hit points for a higher level character might only represent very minor woulds, while for a 1st it means dead.

I was thinking about that (i.e. a Barbarian down 30 HP vs. a Mage down the same), but the point of the item is to know what spell to cast.

Here's an update...

Edit1: Added deathwatch to the requirements.

Edit2: Added "At 4+ HP - Fighting off Death"

Edit3: Added "At 1-3 HP - Fragile"

Edit4: Increased cost by 1,000gp

Edit5: Added "the wearer sees through any spell or ability that allows creatures to feign death"

Edit6: Updated death status section.

Edit5: Fixed some minor grammar errors.

Spectacles of Well-being

Aura faint divination; CL 5th

Slot eyes; Price 8,000 gp; Weight —

DESCRIPTION

The lenses of this item are made of a clear red crystal. When placed over the eyes of the wearer, they enable him to see how healthy those around him are. For each living creature within view you know the following based on their current Hit Point status:

No Damage - Healthy
-1 to -5 HP - Lightly Wounded
-6 to -15 - Moderately Wounded
-16 to -30 - Seriously Wounded
-31+ - Critically Wounded

You also know the following when a creature is near death:

At 6+ HP - Fighting off Death
At 1-5 HP - Fragile
At 0 HP - Staggered
-1 or less HP - Dying
Within 3 HP of Death - Near Death
Within 2 HP of Death - Close to Death
Within 1 HP of Death - Edge of Death
or Dead

Creatures that have no Constitution score give no status. The lenses do not give the status of creature that are otherwise hidden or obscured from the viewer in some way; however, the wearer sees through any spell or ability that allows creatures to feign death. Both lenses must be worn for the magic to be effective.

I was just going over this, sorry about the delay. If you are going for a item that tells people what healing spell to cast why not have one that will do just that? Tell by looking if the character is down 1 to 8, 8 to 16, and so on so they know what spells might heal them and what will be over kill.
