Are there any Documentaries that you use for inspiration on tools/characters/ fighting styles/responses to combat situations in your campaigns?
This week I've watched:
"Reclaiming the blade"- on the culture and craft of swords and the Hollywood legends and academic warriors who wield them. Produced by Galatia Films, the film focuses on the topic of swordplay and explores the Medieval and Renaissance blade.
and the full series of
Terry Jones' Medieval Lives - a 2004 Emmy award nominated television documentary series produced for the BBC. Written and hosted by Terry Jones, each half-hour episode examines a particular Medieval personality, with the intent of separating myth from reality.
The eight episodes were as follows:
* The Peasant
* The Monk
* The Damsel
* The Minstrel
* The Knight
* The Philosopher (Alchemist)
* The Outlaw
* The King
I found both to be interesting and informative. a good background noise to have on a 'working from home' day.(and all of the above are on Netflix instant queue and X-box instant play queues). I was just wondering if there were any others I should be looking at?

Um, I tend to assess everything that I watch or read for its role-playing potential...
Mostly archaeology programmes if you are specifically interested in documentaries, though. And travelogues, especially if you are thinking about a contemporary game... but they can even have uses for fantasy as well. And anything that is presented by Anthony Bordain.
