My PDF's are kinda screwy

I've noticed on a few of the PDF's I've downloaded the letter "A" is always missing when it's used in a title. It makes it really hard to read some of the books and a little confusing when I'm glancing through it looking for something...

You can view a screen capture of the problem at http://i.imgur.com/yXZGW.jpg

I'm using OSX if it matters any, but this is a problem on multiple computers with multiple PDF's.

The problem is with Preview under Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6). We reported it to Apple a while ago. There problem goes away with Adobe Reader under Snow Leopard, or with Preview under older versions of OS X.

I'm pretty sure I had this problem prior to Snow Leopard, but thanks for the quick reply.

Any email address we could add our voice to, let them know other people would like to see this fixed?

This is a recurring problem with Apple Preview. Occurs in one version, gets updated and fixed, then they upgrade, and its back to square one.

Not that I know of... we reported through Apple's bug reporting system for registered developers. And we've heard that somebody actually reported it before we did, while Snow Leopard was still in Beta.

To the best of my knowledge, it's only Snow Leopard on Mac OS X, and it has never been fixed by Apple... but the same problem did exist with Linux PDF readers built on a particular engine; that got fixed a while ago.

Hey there, I'm looking into this because one of the big draws of the iPad was the ability to view my Pathfinder pdf files as conveniently as picking up a paperback. While people having the Snow Leopard issues have the option of switching to Adobe, I'm not sure what we can do with the iPhone OS. Any ideas?

Resurrecting this issue because it is getting worse for people using Mac OS X Lion to view Paizo produced PDFs.

1) Both Preview and Adobe Acrobat Reader demonstrate the missing "A"'s in the titles.

2) Using Preview to view Paizo produced or signed PDFs (like from Super Genius) also causes the CPU of at least one core to spike to 100% until Preview is force quit.

PDFs from any other source, including other game companies like Catalyst, do not demonstrate either of these issues on Lion.

I hope you will be able to investigate this soon.

Yes, yes, I am replying to myself to eat crow. Since I posted this I did two things:

1) I downloaded the new update to the PFRPG Core Rulebook (which is WAY smaller than before, thanks!)

2) I checked the 32-bit mode option for Preview.

3) I removed the Spotlight indexing for PDFs.

And now not only is Preview working just fine with the Pathfinder PDFs, I now have all the "A"'s in my Core Rulebook titles. Awesome.

I am very excited to see the update to the other core books to fix this as well.
