Scarwall Binding

Curse of the Crimson Throne

Crosspost since it doesn't look like it's getting any attention over there.

Did anyone's players get trapped by this binding? Did they just murder everyone in the castle to escape, or were they more clever, like my players are?

I'm thinking that my player will be able to move freely while under the effects of Antimagic Field, but will only be able to move towards the castle once it wears off. It seems that one major purpose of that effect is to keep the PCs from just heading back to town (via Teleport) every evening to restock, and I'd like to keep it that way. Given this interpretation of the rules, they can head back to the barbican to rest, but they can't really leave the castle vicinity.

You might need to provide more information, someone who has DM'd it might be more familiar with it though. Was it an EVIL character? What caused the binding?

Spoiler:
Chain spirit? Castle Scarwall itself? Nightwing? Lich? Blood ballroom? I think all of those things are capable of some sort of binding/soul trapping.

Having only been a player in the AP, I don't know all the little nooks and crannys that were in the castle, but we didn't have any problems just walking out.

Scarab Sages

I'm currently running a group through that module. They've just started (last night was the second session inside the castle) so I've got awhile before I get to that part. But I'll look it up and see what the details are and then post back here with how I plan to handle the binding.

The source is not really relevant, as the text says it operates per the hedged prison version of binding. The question applies to any casting of that spell, not just the one from this adventure.

but if you must know (includes adventure spoilers):
Characters who spend significant time in the castle (I think a week) must save or be under the effects of the spell. Anyone who dies is trapped by the castle as well. One of my PCs was killed by shadows due to Strength damage, but we have a house-rule that you always have one round to save a dying person, no matter what. They saved him, but I said that Castle Scarwall got a hook into his soul (since he was dead for a second there), and now he's subject to the binding spell.
