I am having a difficult getting the PFSRD pages to print properly be selecting text or printing full pages, and was wondering if it was possible to allow the distribution of a PF SRD through pdf documents or as a zip folder of documents for the different parts of the HTML pages. It would be much easier to refer to and utilize in pdf or at least legally on hand from one's hard drive. In the original OGL, we had access to a zip folder of Word documents, which I thought was not only strange bu hazardous to the integrity of the data still being editable in a Word document and then capable of being spread as incorrect information to those who might be unaware.

In any case, I would like to be able to download this data in a compact or else properly formatted letter-sized page or as selectable text, and print it for personal, non-commercial usage. Is this possible? I can put it together for you in InDesign if necessary, maybe a few design elements to spruce it up might be in order, but it's not like it would be difficult... Is there any rationale behind not having a downloadable folder or packet of files for the Pathfinder RPG Reference Document of which I am unaware?? Heck we could even make it available to be placed into someone's Downloads area, and even personalized.... It's not like it had to remain unsecured. :/ Input? Explanation?

Thanks and best wishes,

I want to make sure if you are talking about the PFSRD, as in, d20pfsrd.com, or the official PRD. If the former, read on. If the latter, I can't help you :)

1) Every page on d20pfsrd.com has a "Print this Page" link in the top left corner. Clicking this link loads a version of the page you are on that is more printer friendly. You can try that.

2) In the Downloads section of d20pfsrd.com we have a PDF version of the PRD (the official PRD, not the d20pfsrd.com site). That PDF is very printer friendly. You can try that.

3) In the Downloads section of d20pfsrd.com there is a fully downloadable HTML version of the site. You can try that as well.

Let me know if none of those options work for you. Again, that is assuming you are referring to d20pfsrd.com.

For the official Pathfinder Reference Document, I have to say the pages were not designed for printing (They're certainly printable, but I don't know what would happen tot he formatting.)

The text should at least be selectable, though. Are you using IE? If so, try using Firefox, Chrome, or Safari instead. (Finding out why the PRD text is not selectable on newer versions of IE is on my to-do list...somewhere.)

As far as a downloadable version, this might be a good time to point out that the PDF of the Core Rulebook is bargain priced at $9.99. (Unfortunately, we don't have the time or manpower to re-layout the PRD as its own download. The individual webpages in the PRD are all downloadable, however.)

Ross, I don't know why you cannot select the text in IE 8, If I figure that out I will shoot that to you, but I do know if the user puts your page in Compatibility View the text then becomes selectable. So IE users don't need to use another browser.

Ross: You can select text if you remove "DISPLAY: table;" from #body in prd-template.css.

To jreyst: I saw your site and have it bookmarked, but my comments here were in regard to the official PRD. I enjoy fan-material as much as any other, but it seems funny to me not to offer a zip-folder or pdf version of open gaming material if it is truly OGL material. Just my thoughts on it...

I am using Mozilla Firefox 5.0, which when I print a page off, it cuts my text between pages, and for some reason does not print the full selection of text - if I print it without selecting, it prints the first page of content only. Not sure why this happens. I am aware that if I save the page as an html document, I could save every page to my hard drive - that is tedious and requires too much of the viewer - a compiled pdf or zip file would be much more efficient and useful.

I appreciate all the work that jreyst has done, and think it is admirable to say the least. I have a feeling that not making a printable version of these pages is a bit of a flop... It's not that it would even be that much more work to do so... And if it a hassle about manpower and time to create a PDF version... Well heck, I already offered to help! ;) It wouldn't be too much work to do it... I have InDesign and a grasp of how it is laid out (plus the original OGL for 3.5e D&D as a reference). I think it would be a smart thing to offer from Paizo.com - consider it an investment. God knows, I would probably do it for free... I am already working on so much as it is anyways. :P

For the record, jreyst, I did look over the zip folder PFSRD, and I was quite confused to see the content there - it didn't look right, and had a bunch of creatures from the bestiary, but not all of them. I will look at it again, but I think I was looking at your under-construction version of the documents. I am not a fan of offline html documents, and I prefer Word .doc or PDF format for reference - I don't like my internet browser opening when I am viewing offline content - it confuses me too easily when I start clicking on things thinking that I think I am viewing online web content, or when I accidentally close the wrong window.

And for the record, I have the core rulebook pdf - but that is not the point. We should not leave broke people in the dust - it's not fair. I only have that file because my grandma was nice and knew that it would help me to begin writing material for PF RPG - so it was more of a productivity gift then a hobby/fun gift anyways. I hope this doesn't sound rude - it's just real life considerations that I think are important, especially since I am not the only person having financial trouble right now, and showing that market segment compassion and support would be a good way of continuing good consumer relations by Paizo. God knows - I will do it!!! Dear lord, put me to use! ;) :P

I will admit the Downloads page on the site might be a tad confusing. There's various files there from different points in time, some are in rar format, some zip, some pdf etc. I admit its confusing. Even when I look at it I think "what is going on here?" I'm gonna have to clean that page up I guess.

Anyway, this is a PDF cleanly formatted with no background colors that should print well. It does not call out to any websites so far as I know.

If that doesn't work for you then that's about all I got :)

As a sidenote, I thought the $10 PDF of the core rules was a great way to keep the poor folks in mind.

And if that's too much, you can get the free one above.

If that's too much then you're in a world of hurt and I don't know how you are on a computer :)

The $9.99 PFRPG pdf rulebook is an excellent value! I wouldn't have gotten back into this game at all if it weren't for the tempting offer. With the bestiary you have a complete game for only $20!

I know money is really tight for a lot of us, but the printed Core Rulebook is still an excellent value at $49.99 since it is actually two books in one. With the bestiary this is only $90 and still costs less than what D&D 3.5 core set was originally going for.

For the truly desperate Amazon is an excellent source for any book if you really need to pinch pennies.

Agreed. There really is no way to beat the $9.99 price for the PDF. I don't care how broke I was, how out of work I was, I could come up with $10 for that tasty PDF.

Oh yes, they do! It's just not because of this problem... ;-)
