With a look of horror the IceMaiden moves as if in a trance, her body responding even as her mind registers what is happening. She sees young Kanud barelling towards her, sees Jorgen step forth and sees the look in his eyes. She can almost hear the thought as his eyes flash.

GO!

As the boy slams into her taking them both mostly clear of the danger, her last thoughts are drowned out by the pain of hitting the deck and the bone wrenching crunch of impact.

Saorise takes 6 damage and is healed 5 by the channel, hopefully so is the kid.

Jorgen groans as her feels the bones reknit themselves, a feeling like being set on fire from the inside.

"I hope the evil witch is worth risking your life for warrior?" Kurn whispers to Jorgen as he gains consciousness.

He turns his head slowly, formerly cracked vertebrae protesting the movement, to look in the direction of Saorise and the boy. Seeing her rising to her feet he grins through a mouthful of blood.

"In a heartbeat" he mutters, coughing as his lungs clear.

"How many would do the same for you?"

Ragnar rushes to aid in pulling Drago from under the boom.
Does the damage look serious from on the deck?
Profession (Sailor):1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

The Exchange

Saorise and Kanud almost make it out of danger before they are both clipped. The blow is like being hammered by an ox. Kurn's healing deals with the worst of the chaotic boom attack.

Ragnar and the others can help clear away the boom and sail, unfortunately they find Drago right under the thick wooden spar, and his shallow breathing and grey complexion is nothing compared to the mess his left leg is in. Drunken slurred words come out of Drago's mouth, "thass dem croo live?"

Unfortunately next to Drago lies one of the sailors with his head stove in. The only one not to make it to safety or dodge in time.

Heal check DC11 on Drago

Spoiler:
Drago has taken damage which can be healed but the leg wound needs proper rest, a good splint and care and attention every couple of hours for a few days.

As for the boom and sail, they should be easy enough to put back together once the storm has cleared, in this weather things would be decidedly dicey for anyone at the top of the mast.

Now that the ship has come to a halt, with that slight lean, everyone can see how the ship is surrounded by light blue water, mostly about three foot deep, in a small inlet of the iceberg with walls that steadily rise up about twenty feet from the water's edge. Above that the iceberg is mostly flat apart from one large rising peak with the hole to the left.

Helga grins slowly.

"I would know who or what might make such a thing, aye, but let us ensure our ship is secure before we leave her."

Female Human Barbarian/2

Seeing that there's nothing for her to do immediately on the boat, Anya finds her spear, makes sure her sack is secure against her belt, and leaps ashore. Once there she begins looking around and searching for tracks. She keeps looking at and slowly moving towards the entrance into the peak. She either did not hear or simply ignored Stefnir's comment, but it certainly appears as if she intends to explore the opening, with or without anyone along with her.
Survival:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Hey, in checking up on survival, I just realized that I've been forgetting to roll Survival checks to be able to add another +2 or +4 against severe weather. I'm sure that will come in handy more than once ;-)

Sorry guys, flat out weekend and work got hectic again. :/
Thanks Mark for filling in for me. :)

Getting unsteadily to her feet and cradling her arm, Saorise gives her young saviour a grin in thanks before she feels Kurn's healing energy fow into her. She flexes her injured arm tentatively, but with more confidence as she realises that it is almost back to normal.
She moves over towards Jorgen and says quietly to him but not whispered "are you alright? Can you move or are you still hurt?"
While waiting for his answer, she hears Stefnir's questions regarding the hole and turns her head to look at where he is facing. Her eyes narrow as she sees the Runes and she turns back to Jorgen, saying "I wish to go with him to explore that cave. You still do not look well, so it may be best if you remain on board"

Ragnar quietly pulls the dead crewman toward the prow of the vessel, hopefully out of the way until a proper send-off can be given to him. He pulls one of the old blankets over him, tucking the edges under his prone form to keep it from blowing away. He turns to Stefnir.
Assuming there isn't a better thing to do for now; I don't know if there are any superstitions for corpse placement on a boat.

"I guess we will have to wait until morning as this storm looks like it will last."

Ragnar moves the body to the lower side of the ship and it is soon wrapped in a winter blanket.

Given time and more opportunity to study the hole, it looks to be carved and about ten feet wide and high. The Krakis serpent symbol is proudly cut into the top with writhing body forming part of the arching entrance.

Anya almost hops from one foot to the other as she wants to take a look. Stefnir, Saorise and Ragnar are soon by her side.

Looks like Kurn is staying on board with Jorgen. That leaves Helga and Ari to post.

EDITED for Stefnir - thanks for the reminder mate.

I was waiting for Kurn's reply to my post, but I suppose he can cast a healing spell as well as Helga can.

Scrambling up behind the others, Helga looks in wonderment at the carved figures, running through stories and legends in her head that might relate to this. She carefully strings her bow and notches an arrow.

Male Half-Elf Cleric 2

"Take it easy warrior, you need to rest" says Kurn to Jorgen.

Kurn then looks at the cave entrance and the Krakis symbol with interest. He tries to think what this might be

Female Human Barbarian/2

Anya most certainly does Not 'hop from foot to foot', why, they very idea Hmph! ;-)PS anything with the survival check?

Continuing to search for any sign of life, Anya occasionally send impatient glares back towards the other. Once they have finally gathered near her, she starts to head toward the caves.

Just to be clear, Anya has no interest whatsoever in being any kind of leader. But she's also not too great of a follower and she literally can't even spell patient...hmm, think I may have used that joke once already, but, oh well = )

Male Human (Kreig) Inquisitor 2

Jorgen sits a javelin at his side as he watches the group.

The Exchange

The water round the ship is ice cold and chills any of the four adventurers who are not warded, chills them to the marrow. Once Anya moves up onto the ice plateau she finds no signs of tracks, the ground is mostly swept clean by the snow storm, with the odd drift around its edge.

I need a DC14 Fort save to avoid taking 4 points of non-lethal cold damage from anyone who disembarks the Albatross. Furs and the like have no effect on this, the water just goes straight through. Endure elements will avoid the damage.

The carvings are intricate, painstakingly detailed to show the large axes holstered at each giant's ice waist. The serpent scales are also beautifully made, possibly they could be dwarven they are so well crafted. The creatures look as if they could step away from the ice they are that lifelike.

Inside the hole, the ice has been hollowed into a large tunnel that curves to the right, the translucent walls must be fairly thin since there is a grey light about the inside. The lighting is good enough for everyone to see inside.

Kurn

Spoiler:
The Sea Serpent is one aspect of Krakis and biting his own tail, shows just how angry he can get. The symbol is found on all temples and shrines usually. Occasionally elsewhere too.

Never a good thing to hear as you're walking into a hole...

Saorise lifts her coat and dress up, but still scowls as her boots become wet from disembarking from the boat. She gazes up at the carvings as they approach and as they enter the tunnel, she removes one of her gloves and runs her fingertips along the crystal clear ice of the walls, admiring it's clarity.
She glances ahead at Anya's form barreling into the tunnel ahead and shakes her head as she smiles to herself at that one's apparent deathwish.

As and when you cast that spell just mark next to the spell who you have cast it on, with the default being Saorise. Something like endure elements (Saorise), endure elements (Jorgen). Then we have a constant reminder of the others that you may cast it on, and most of the time you will not need to remind me. In the long run, I am trying to get across to everyone that when the winters finally strike you guys may want to avoid going outside, which is more typical of viking life. Of course, that spell means a fair few of you could just keep going regardless.

The Exchange

Anya is about ten foot ahead of Saorise and Stefnir as they take a moment to study the carvings. Saorise and Helga just one more look and see the others enter the ice tunnel.

The floor is not curved nor smooth, in fact someone has taken the time and trouble to carve five foot wide icy flagstones down the way. The walls are covered in small icy spikes like the tips of snowflakes, and they do have been cut back to allow the presence of a greater number of flagstones. This means that ahead the tunnel widens into a twenty five foot or so irregular antechamber.

The first thing that Anya notices is the wooden decking poking round the right hand bend, part of the icefloor. Its planks have been snapped off at the ends. Just then.....

The echo of someone's footfall brings a response from beyond sight, a sibilant whisper with a frosty reception, "begone or the guardians of Krakis' will show you shocking proof of his power, heh heh heh."

The words echo back towards Anya and the rest behind her.

I'll post a map to Dabbler tomorrow am to help everyone a bit.

Male Half-Elf Cleric 2

With Drago stable and Jorgen resting, Kurn turns to Ari "help me repair the mast please brother". Kurn then locates the ships tools and will try and repair the mast.

The Exchange

Taggrik repeats to Kurn that attempting to fix the boom and ropes in a snow storm would be dangerous. "Better to wait until the morning, perhaps you can use the time and the sail to make us a lean-to shelter of some kind at the prow. Unless we all enter the ice cave.. ha ha no?"

Male Half-Elf Cleric 2

"Very well Taggrik, you're right of course. I don't think going into the cave and leaving the ship is a good idea at the moment. That's a job for the land lubbers!". Kurn will attempt to make some shelter in the prow, using the sail for now.

Male Half-Elf Rogue 2

Ari will assist his brother with the heavy work, he will also collect any blankets that he finds and take them to the prow as well. Ari will then find his backpack and keep it within reach.

gaaahhh... How bad was my spelling there. I don't even have late night/lack of sleep to blame that one on, it was only 6.45 in the evening. :/

No problem keeping track

Saorise's head jolts upright as the words come echoing down the tunnel. Her eyes narow and she glances at Setefnir and Helga, then turns to look ahead to where Anya has gone off on her own.
She draws the bone blade from her back and prepares to move forward with the others, but she'll wait for Stefnir to take the lead.

Oops. Pardon me Saorise. I'm scanning in a rough map now, apologies for the smudges but I'm a little pressed for time and I have a much better map for when you guys have visited the entire cave system. Dabbler please can you do the necessary so that Khal has a copy. Cheers.

On the map, I have placed Anya at E14 for now, Ragnar at G15, Stefnir at G14, Helga H15 and Saorise at H14. Since this is my first time trying to coordinate with a map, please can everyone involved remember to include any positional change and the square they end up in. Ta.

Helga advances toward D-15, bow ready.

"Begone? We are run aground on this berg in this storm, we cannot leave it 'til our ship is repaired, and one of Krakis' priests is aboard."

Helga calls ahead cautiously.

Female Human Barbarian/2

Thanks FW & Dabs! Great map : ) And sorry, FW but by 'planking' do you mean it's part of a ship?

Never having been one to respond well to threats, Anya growls involuntarily in the back of her throat. She takes a quick glance behind her to see where the others are, then, ready to attack or defend, whichever is warranted, she steps closer to try and identify the source of the voice. (C-12)

The Exchange

Anya, yes the decking is planking of a ship, old icy rimed wood though.

Stefnir moves forwards ahead of Anya keeping a close eye on his surroundings, he spots the cracks beginning to form beneath his foot just as he puts weight down. Stefnir is at E12

Stefnir, I need a Reflex save DC14, and you can have a +2 bonus thanks to that perception roll, despite not being a rogue.

The crackling sound spreads and echoes off the icewalls deeper into the cave.

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Stefnir steps back a couple of feet instinctively but its all too late and the ice all around him cracks, and his arms begin to fly upwards as his weight descends.

I'll save a post and roll the other initiatives. Ragnar 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16, Saorise 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22, and Anya 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24. Right Saorise and Anya can act to grab Stefnir if they wish but it will require a successful to hit roll (using BAB plus Strength) and then his sudden weight will need to be taken or both people could end up going into the icehole, i.e. another Strength test. Stefnir's AC to hit will be 10. Make sure to indicate any squares that you move to.

The crackling ice brings hollow laughter from beyond your view, "ha, ha, ha. Watch out for the ice, who knows how deep that hole is? ha ha ha."
