Magic Item Creation - How the heck does this stuff work ><

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Alright, So I'm venturing into a new field, and thus far I only know how to do potions, and scrolls.

Anything else currently seems beyond my ability.

><

So here is the deal.

A cloak of Elven Kind has a cost of 2500 gp, the creation cost is half that.

Now if you go to the magic item creation, and for skill bonuses, (Elven kind cloak is +5 to stealth) you'll notice that it's bonus squared times 100 gp.

So 500 gp, right??

Where is the other 750 gp coming from out of that 1250 gold Creation Cost.

That's my question.

Because, I want to make either a ring or a cloak, and I've no damned clue how much it would cost.

I really do assume that the elven cloak itself doesn't cost 750 gp. Can someone help me with this.

The bonus is +5. 5 squared is 5*5, which is 25. 25*100 = 2,500.

The creation cost is half of the purchase price. The purchase price is what is determined by the formula you cited above.

Bonus = 5

Bonus squared = 5^2 = 25
Bonus squared times 100 = 25*100 = 2500
Total prices halfed = 2500/2 = 1250

So my belief on how it worked was incorrect.

So then..

Squared is just the bonus times itself, then times the cost?

So a +1 is 1x1 = 1 x 100 = 100 Gold.

Where as a +2 bonus is
2x2 = 4 x 100 = 400 Gold?

Is that the correct way to go about it then?

Yep. That's what "squared" means. A number multiplied by itself.

Thanks guys, and yeah, my mathematical skills are lacking. lol.

I can do basics, and apparently not all of them >.> But now I can! I fail ><
