Touch-based staff / wand / rod spells

Rules Questions

If you have a staff/wand/rod with a touch-based spell (like Cure Light Wounds), does the staff/wand/rod in question have to touch the recipient of the spell?

I think I've answered my own question, but am curious.

Thanks!

Sovereign Court

Technically, no. The wand triggers the spell, but you do the touching. But having said that, I've always ruled that you do in fact touch with the item, just because it looks better when you shocking grasp someone with a metal, pronged wand (AP#1).

Hehe, nice.

Thanks!
