The specific text of the Helm of Comprehending Languages and Reading magic is as follows:
"Appearing as a normal helmet . . ."
These first few words tell us quite a bit - the helmet appears as a 'normal helmet', which would generally be whatever type would be worn with the armor your Druid wears. If your character wore a non-metal armor, it stands to reason that such a helmet could be fashioned as non-metal as well.
By default I would assume a Helm of Comprehending Languages and Reading Magic would appear in loot as a Breastplate/Full Plate Helm, but this is obviously not a requirement. If you were purchasing the helm in a store, it would be possible (15% chance I'd say) that the helm would designed to compliment leather or hide armor.
Assuming that is not available, I would suggest that you get such a Helm custom made - which should not increase the cost. If you're having it made for you, it could be designed to perfectly accent the armor you are currently wearing, right down to the specific color - if you're into that sort of thing.
In the end, as always, it comes down to GM discretion.

Gosh - you were quick on there :-)
I agree with you - but just wanted to canvas opinion.
I'm thinking of having my Druid Wild Shape into a Huge Air Elemental
- that can read -
- but more interesting than that is the possibilities of being a creature which is made from air
- or is it that I *appear* to be made from air?
For example, as an HAE:
1) am I bothered by walking down 5' corridors?
2) Can I squeeze through any space which is not air-tight?
3) Can I occupy the same space as the rest of the party without bothering them?
4) Can I stop moving and effectively become invisible?

While that's a neat idea, I'm afraid the RAW doesn't support it.
Air Elementals are not insubstantial or incorporeal - they do have a physical body and thus are constrained as normal for their size. A Huge Air Elemental weights 8 lbs, it is just nowhere near as dense as most creatures.
To answer your specific questions:
1: Yes, you would be in cramped quarters.
2: No, as you still do have a 'body size', even if this is simply whirling air. What you're looking for is the Gaseous Form spell.
3: Unless the party is two or more steps smaller or larger than you, no, as normal.
4: Air elementals are constantly spinning air. They do have a *body* (which is why they can be hit by non-magical physical attacks) which prevents them from appearing invisible. Given the right circumstances, as a GM I would apply a bonus to stealth checks, however.
Not that your druid can change into this form, but contrast the Air Elemental with the Invisible Stalker. That seems to be more what you're looking for.

1) yes you will get penalties on AC and attack as being in a cramped space
2) I would say no, I tend to think you have to stay in a roughly defined shape humanoid/animal etc, even if it is made out off compressed air.
3) no, not unless you can fly above their heads
4) Air elementals are not invisible per definition, invisible stalkers are generally appearing in a smoke like shape or something similar.
as a sidenote they have escape artist, stealth, fly and acrobatics skills quite high, so they can do many of those things quite well to an extent, your druid however is not so lucky.
