Wall spells

Rules Questions

Just a quick question to throw out here. I've been playing a wizard for the first time, now, and thing are starting to get interesting. We just hit 9th level and I'm finding some of the wall spells have some interesting battlefield control options.

So, wall spells. Do they all need to be formed in a straight line? Certain walls allow for circles or hemispheres instead of lines, but none of them really say that the line has to be straight. Some mention anchor points and such, but I want to know if I can create a wall with a right angle or similar turns in it.

Also, we use a battle grid to play (which, I imagine, you really need anymore). When you summon a wall, does it appear on the lines or on the spaces that people take up? Again, some walls mention people occupying the same space, implying that they take up a square. Others, being only inches thick (or less, like Wall of Force) feel more like they should be on the lines between spaces.

So, thought on walls... go.

It is really going to vary from wall to wall, which are you curious about?

Well, eventually I'd like to know for sure about each of them, but right now it's pretty much Fire and Force.

But all in all, we've got:

Fire
Force
Ice
Iron
Prismatic
Stone

I think that covers the wizard spells.

I'm going to show you how to find out so you can in the future with others instead of looking them all up for you.

Wall of fire - look at the line labled effect. You have two possible shapes. One is a straight wall you decide the length based on caster level. Alternatively it can make a wall(ring) around you.

Wall of force - effect is a straight wall, the description tells you it's a flat vertical plane

Now let's look at wall of stone - you see the (S) at the end of the effect description? That means the spell is shapeable. You can make it zig-zag around the battlefield or even make a sphere around yourself with it.

Have fun frustrating monsters with your new abilities.

Check out this ENworld thread. I'll warn you that the discussion gets pretty technical.

I've submitted this as a question for the Kobold @ Kobold Quarterly. We'll see if Skip picks it up. (Check out this KoboldQuarterly thread for the thread for asking your own questions.)
