du 8 goes down

Male Drow Noble Conjurer 7

Ghaun smiles at the stumbling duergar. "Vor'mex'neth."
Cast magic missile at the duergar; 3 missiles at 3 different duergar. 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 51d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 41d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

im invoking the "mook" rule
so ghaun takes down three of the duergar

mook rule

Spoiler:
the mook rule is that sometimes we want to speed combat up, so if the ONLY remaining enemy in the combat are low level mooks (who dont pose much of a threat anymore), one hit will kill them. is that ok for everyone? i will at the moment only apply it to 1HD creatures

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

No problem with the mook rule.

M Drow Fighter 7

Vhorun run to the nearest target and slash away.

1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
1d10 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

Crit:
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
1d10 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13

I'm at work right now so i don't know wich duergar is the closest

vhorun, i rolled a combat manuver check for you, which you pass, you step into L20 and hit and kill du10

Du 3, 7, 8,10 and 12 are now down

miu is still to act this round

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

Didn't Ghaun just dropped 3 people with magic missiles?

Charlyl Rilynghym wrote:

yup! already edited!!

Female Drow Cleric 7

Seeing the panic of the duergar brings a smile to Miu's face.
"Good work boys! Time to finish them off!"

With these words Miu takes another swing at the duergar next to her.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 201d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

mook rule makes sense to me

Miu Rilynghym wrote:

1d20+10; 1d8+6

mook rule makes sense to me

the duergar near you is already dead so i will assume you use your crossbow on a further enemy

the remaining duergar can do very little expcept mill around
so its round 4
pc's are up

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

Charlyl drops his sword, pulls out his heavy crossbow, and fires into the milling duergars.

atk & dmg: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 241d10 ⇒ 4

Capture one for quick questioning or kill them all? Maybe the hostage will have some info on the gauths or other surprises? Why do we always end up killing the sergeants...

Female Drow Cleric 7

oops
Miu laughs as the drow fire their bolts into the group of duergar.

shoot at a duergar who's not getting shot at
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 251d8 ⇒ 6

M Drow Fighter 7

With a smile Vhorun join his cousins and pull out his own crossbow. With the calmness of a murder who has cornered his prey he carefully aim and fire his crossbow.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
1d4 ⇒ 3

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

Well, so much for questioning...

And I think it's hilarious that under the mook rules, the hand crossbow suddenly becomes a deadly weapon :)

one duergar left and Ghaun still to act this round

Male Drow Noble Conjurer 7

Ghaun hurls a glob of acid at the last duergar.
Acid Ray SLA (touch attack) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 251d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

Assuming the last duergar goes down...

Leaving the drow wizard's goodies to Ghaun to loot, Charlyl quickly listen the the exit to see if their surprise has been compromised.

ok we are out of combat
can i have a listen check from charlyl?
what do the rest of you want to do?

Female Drow Cleric 7

Miu will stare angrily at Ghaun'mere until he dispels the web she's caught in.

it's called a perception check nowadays ;)

M Drow Fighter 7

"Well, that went well."

Vhorun will search the duergars, starting with the ranked one.

Miu Rilynghym wrote:

damn! i've been playing 3.5 for too long!!

Rav

nothing exciting on any of the duergar
just basic armour and weapons
anyone going to search the drow?

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

listen: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26

Charlyl hears nothing unusual

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

"Looks like we still have the element of surprise," Charlyl informs his cousins as he joins them, gingerly stepping around the sticky web, "unfortunately, unless we can somehow fool the gauth, the stealthy part of our operation is over, unless..."

"I have a crazy idea," whispers Charlyl with a mischievous grin as he takes out a plain, black box out of his backpack, "this is a disguise kit. I can make you (points at Ghaun) look like him (jerks his thumb at the dead wizard). The disguise will not hold forever, but it should get you close enough to the gauth. Us three will follow behind you as the mine's 'reinforcements.' Ghaun, if the gauth are suspicious even after you have introduced us, leave the talking to me. Once we've closed the distance, we can surprise them. What say you all?"

I really want to make fun of Miu as the only one trapped in the web, but am afraid that she'll simply brain me with her mace. I should have been a cleric...

M Drow Fighter 7

"That is some good thinking. It might just get us close enough to finish them quickly"

good plan! but ghaun does not nessesarily look the most like the dead wizard so

can all male PCs roll a d10, whoever rolls the lowest looks most like the dead wizard,

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

Do I look like the dead wizard? 1d10 ⇒ 2

I am also going to go ahead and loot the dead wizard, I will probably hand most of the stuff over to Ghaun anyway, but it's worth taking a look at.

Charlyl Rilynghym wrote:

yes you do!!

i think i may bring in a new house rule!
that if pcs kill a npc too quick they get no treaure!
Charlyl you really ruined my fun! grumble grumble!
the wizard did not even get one spell off!

SPELLBOOK: 0—arcane mark, dancing lights*, detect magic, detect
poison, disrupt undead, flare*, light*, mage hand, mending, open/close,
prestidigitation, ray of frost, read magic, resistance; 1st—burning
hands, cause fear, mage armor, magic missile*, magic weapon, ray of
enfeeblement, shield, spider climb, true strike; 2nd—cat’s grace, daylight*,
glitterduste, flaming sphere*, scorching ray, web; 3rd—dispel
magic, fly, halt undead, haste, lightning bolt*, protection from elements;
4th—fire shield*, fire trap, ice storm*, stoneskin.

Ghaun can take 10 on spellcraft and will be able to easily identify all items
Rapier, light crossbow, 20 bolts, 500gp diamond dust
wand of lightning bolt(25 charges)
potion of haste
potion of cure serious wounds,
scroll of mage armor
scroll spider climb,
scroll stoneskin
all at minimum caster level

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

Just curious, how do you guys usually divide loot among the party members? In my face-to-face section, all loot gets sold, unless someone wants to claim something. If you claim, let's say, the wand, then you pay 1/2 price and put that $ into the pot. This way, regardless of how many items are claimed, everyone still get the same share of $ as if they have sold everything. Fair?

Male Drow Noble Conjurer 7

Ghaun smiles impishly at Mia, "You should enjoy being in Lolth's web." dismiss web before Mia brains me ;)
As far as the items go, I'd like the wand, scrolls, spellbook and diamond dust.
Charlyl's request seems fair. I'll have to give a rain check on the money till the end.
roll to see if I'm the next imposter drow:
1d10 ⇒ 6

M Drow Fighter 7

I could use the potion of haste, and agrees with Charlyls loot dividing system.

Imposter check 1d10 ⇒ 3

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

So apparently Charlyl himself looks most like the dead wizard...

disguise check 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21

Throwing the dead wizard's robe over himself, Charlyl turns around to his cousins, "Well, how do I look?"

I wish I could have rolled higher. Maybe you guys can do Perception checks to see if you can see through my disguise yourselves?

Edit: While reading over Disguise, I found that the roll is suppose to be made secretly. If that's the case, then we're on our way assuming my cousins are convinced I did a good enough job?

you all get to the door where the younglings are kept, you can listen at the door, Charlyl you hear the sound of children chattering,

how exactly are you going in? do you open the door and walk in charlyl at the front? or?

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

Unless someone has another suggestion, Charlyl the disguised wizard will knock then take the lead in.

M Drow Fighter 7

Vhorun will follow and wait for things to go down.

you open the door and go in

the are lots of younglings working on tables, they are cleaning and polishing armour and some weapons, they are also sewing garments and doing other tasks, (you have found a sweatshop!) there are various and there are two gauths

one of the gauth looks at you and says "Ry'lik what do you want? who are the others with you?"
before you can say anything, the other gauth then says "you're not Ry'lik!! INTRUDERS!"

at this point we go to iniative for round one
i will send you a battle map, people need to tell me if they are happy with where they are
I have allowed you to get fairly close as the gauth only beat your disguise by a few points

Charlyl 20
Gauth 16
Ghaun'mere 14
Vhorun 14
Miu 13
dwarf younglings 10

Female Drow Cleric 7

You see Miu on the edge of an angry outburst at the wizard's remark but against your expectations she only walks towards her looting cousins, snatches away the potions, says:

"I shall keep these safe. You would only waste them. The wizardy stuff will be of more use in your hands Ghaun'mere... I suggest you take good care of them and don't waste it. You can thank me later."

and moves with her cousins to the next room.

position is fine

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

"Duck and cover, young ones!" Charlyl yells as he draws his crossbow (move action) & shoots a bolt at the nearest gauth.

Atk & Dmg: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 191d10 + 3d6 ⇒ (3) + (5, 5, 3) = 16

Do the tables give cover? I imagine not because I can't picture dwarven tables higher than my waist.

Also, can you give a description of what these gauths look like? Charlyl has never seen one before, and is most curious to know.

The gauth, sometimes known as the lesser beholder, is a 4-foot
wide orb dominated by a central eye. Six smaller eyes on stalks
sprout from the top of its body,

the gauth act!

the gauth move up so they are 10ft in the air and fire off some of their eye rays
can Charlyl make a will save (or be paralyzed for a while) dc14

Vhorun you are automatically exhausted
Ghaun can you make a dc 14 will save or be paralyzed for a while
Miu can you make dc 14 fortitude save or be stunned for a round

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

If the effect is enchantment, then add 2 to that save. Otherwise I am paralyzed.

Male Drow Noble Conjurer 7

Will Save, if ench then +2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Male Drow Noble Conjurer 7

Shrugging off the eyeray, Ghaun'mere focuses his blood given magic.
Use Dispel Magic spell like ability as area effect on all failed saves: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 171d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 101d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Female Drow Cleric 7

assuming the dispel didn't work

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Miu is caught by one of the rays and is hardly able to do anything but standing still.

Ghaun'mere wrote:

I am happy to disuss this but i dont think dispel magic will work on

most of the effects
My understanding is that Miu will still be stunned, the magic that has caused the stun is no longer active just its effect
the same applies to vhorun so the dispel magic does not work on them

BUT Charly is paralized by an ongoing effect so your dispel works on him (i will use your first dispel roll)

I am willing to discuss this becuase i could be wrong! (email me) but for this round it is moot anyway because your other two dispel rolls would be too low to dispel anyway

I hope i am being fair
Rav

so Charlyl is no longer paralyzed
miu is stunned for a round
vhorun is exhausted but still to act

BTW if you are paralyzed you can still use innate abilities (except for suggestion)

M Drow Fighter 7

Suddenly feeling too exhausted to fight the gauths Vhorun find a gold piece in his purse and close his fist around it.

"They've sapped my strength!" he yells to his companion.

"Try looking through this you ugly son of an orc whore"

Using his innate magic he makes the gold piece allmost shine darkness and toss it in the gauths direction.

use deeper darkness on the gold piece and toss it at the gauths. he then closes to melee distance, listening for their position.

Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

the coin lands in ef/18 19
causing everthing to go dark within a 60ft area (this is a nasty innate ability Vhorun!!)
you hear dwarves scattering all over the place
vhorun gets to f 14

round two
the entire room is dark you cant see anything, you can hear young dwarves all over the place, making various nervous, scared sounds
please note that you have a 50 percent miss chance and can you tell me what square you are attacking

Charlyl 20
Gauth 16
Ghaun'mere 14
Vhorun 14
Miu 13
dwarf younglings 10

( OOC vhorun sorry about the exhaustion in future encounters if i use gauth i will house rule that you all get a save, by way of apology im letting you do two standard actions, deeper darkness andthrowing the coin!)
