Male Drow Noble Conjurer 7

"What did you have in mind dwarf?"
Know(arcana) on the gauths: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
Know(nature); or +3 dugeoneering on duergar immunities & weaknesses: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Ghaun

Some info on Duergar, even though you did not roll well you know alot about them because there are thousands in your city and you have some who are employed by your house
Darkvision: Duergar can see in the dark up to 120 feet.
Duergar Immunities: Duergar are immune to paralysis,
phantasms, and poison.
Stability: Duergar receive a +4 racial bonus to their CMD
against bull rush or trip attempts while on solid ground.
Spell-Like Abilities: Duergar can cast enlarge person and
invisibility each once per day, using their character level as
their caster level. Both of these spell-like abilities affect
the duergar only.
Light Sensitivity: Duergar are dazzled as long as they
remain in an area of bright light.

less is known abouth gauth but you have a good knowlegege arcana

wide orb dominated by a central eye. Six smaller eyes on stalks
sprout from the top of its body.

exhaustion
Stunning Gaze (central eye)

Orrin says
perhaps Vhorun can have a NON LETHAL combat with three of my warriors
how about in 10 minutes time

and I will take the wager but the competion can only start when i join you and that will be after the younglings are secured

Female Drow Cleric 7

Miu grins at her cousins, obviously approving their actions.

"Ah a little warming-up before battle, sounds good. Cousin Vhorun be careful not to hurt our friends too much though..."

broken wrist here, will keep my posts short

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

"If the duergars we kill on the way to save your young don't count and our primary objective is to eliminate the other drows afterwards, this wager would hardly seem fair." Charlyl points out deftly, "How about we just bet on the upcoming 'friendly competition?' I throw my lot behind my cousin, of course."

Orrin says I will happily bet on my warriors
50 gold it is!

shal handsigns you
"Orrin is trying to be clever again, he wants you to win, many of his dwarves are not in favour of this allliance, by showing your skill off, Orrin hopes to further convince these doubters that an alliance with us is the only hope of survival"

the dwarves form a square around an area 30ft by 30ft

Vhorun faces 3 tough looking dwarves (tougher looking than most the other dwarves)
who are armed with war axes and shield and chain armour
they all have a spare axe and various daggers etc

you are placed 10ft away from the dwarves who are all side by side
(for simplicities sake non lethal combat is at minus 4 to hit
unless you really want to hurt them!)

Orrin says "lets just stick to melee weapons for this fight"

round 1
Vhorun wins on iniative, he goes first

M Drow Fighter 7

With qucik reflexes Vhorun burst forwards towards the three dwarves, seeming to go straight for the dwarf in the middle of their line. Suprisingly he adjust his course at the last moment and goes for the dwarf to the right instead.

Much as he did against the troll he raises his sword for a high chop, but angles it so it ends between the dwarfs leg.
He keeps the momentum of his sword, and rolls his sword around his head to slash at the dwarf on the left.

Actions: 5 ft step forward and full attack including a trip.
Trip 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30
Attack 2 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 9 - 4 = 18
Damage 1d10 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

When i have multiple attacks each round, do i need to aim them all at the same target or could i aim each of the attacks at a different target? If all attacks need to be directed at the same target, the second attack will be aimed at the dwarf i tried to trip

you can do multiple attacks and split them as you like
in fact you can attack someone, see the result and then decide if you are going to attack them, attack someone else, or move

in a pbp you cant really wait to see the result of you attack so instead give me options
ie "if my first attack hits B then my next attaack will go for B
if i I miss A then i will attack A Again

you trip the first dwarf
and you get an AOO against him while he is lying on the floor
you get a +4 to hit because he is prone

to speed things up i will do the AOO
you hit and do 16 points of damge
he looks close to dropping!

you miss the other dwarf.

The tripped dwarf stands up
and the one of the others moves into a flanking position
so you have one in front (who is injured)
one behind and one to you left

all three dwarves miss you!

(btw i had a look at your hp and i think youshould be on full hp)

ROUND 2 your turn

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

"Don't let them flank you cousin..." Mutters Charlyl as he watches the fight unfold.

M Drow Fighter 7

Finding himself surrounded Vhorun stabs his sword at the injured dwarf in front of him, the sharp edge easily cutting through his armor, impaling the ugly dwarf. In a fluid motion he removes his sword and takes a step forward while spinning his sword back toward the dwarf on the left. (i'm assuming i'm dropping the dwarf in front of me with a crit doing 40 damage, if not the 5ft step is backward instead of forward)

full attack and 5 ft step forward so i end in the dropped dwarfs square

attack 1 1d20 + 14 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 14 - 4 = 27
attack 2 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 9 - 4 = 20
Damage 1 1d10 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Damage 2 1d10 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

Crit confirmation
1d20 + 14 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 14 - 4 = 23
1d10 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13

Attack 1 finishes off the injured dwarf, he is out cold (i dont think i will let you impale him because you attacked him non lethally)
your second attack bounces of the second dwarves shield

the dwarf that was to you left 5 ft steps so he is again on your left

the dwarf who was behind you moves to your right and flanks you
they both attack

the first one rolls a twenty!! but does not confirm (if he had been a naughty dwarf and tried a lethal attack he would have hit! as it is he missed the confirm roll by one!)
he does 11 damage to you!
the other one misses!

The dwarves cheer as one of their own gives Vhorun a solid whack round the head, they look dismsayed when Vhorun seems to just shrug it off.

ROUND three

while this is going on
a big tough looking dwarf comes and tries to chat to Miu
he looks you up and down and says

well met! I am Torin stormhammer cleric of moradin
you are the groups cleric are'nt you!I have to say i'm really impressed you look more like a warrior then a cleric

M Drow Fighter 7

ah yeah forgot about the non-lethal part in my description

Vhorun kick out at the dwarf who hit him, in an effort to trip him before furiously smashing his sword hard against him.

trip and attack at the same dwarf

Trip 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23
Attack 2 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 9 - 4 = 23
damage 1d10 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

Crit
1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 9 - 4 = 9
1d10 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17

AoO if needed
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
1d10 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

Crit 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
1d10 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18

Another dwarf goes down!
the remaining dwarf looks at you and smiles
he says "im glad you're on our side! I surrender!"
The remaining dwarf lowers his weapon and steps back

Orrin hands 50gp over to Charlyl

the dwarves slowly disperse

OOC I will wait for any more comments from you lot and then fast forward,

Female Drow Cleric 7

"The Soul Forger... if you lot would act more like warriors your god wouldn't be so disappointed in you I'd say. Lolth be praised for this opportunity for us to proof where true power lies. Certainly not in allowing weakness."

Miu looks at the ending brawl.

"See my point? You must be glad we're on the same side..."

Torin listens to Miu, shrugs and walks off

Female Drow Cleric 7

Now that's settled and cousin Vhorun has shown our dwarven friends proof of our skills it's time to see how their obnoxious cousins fare in combat.

Miu seems eager to fight as she gives Vhorun a pat on his shoulder.

i think i will fast forward!

you rest and get ready for the following day, you are all up to full hit points and can have another 200exp each

you are given a map and shown where the back entrance is
you can easily get within 70ft or so of the entrance because you are in the cover of nearby woods (so no stealth checks yet)

you see 4 deugar at the entrance sitting around a rock playing a aame

(i will send a map)
how do you want to proceed?

M Drow Fighter 7

Crouching behind a tree Vhorun signs to his cousins 'Four of them versus four of us. Unless any of you' he indicates Miu and Ghaun'mere 'has any magic that would be usefull, i think we need to poison them to keep them from raising an alarm'

'Although they don't look like they are paying much attention. Maybe it would be possible to sneak up on them.'

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

'Cousin, Ghaun'mere told us Duergars are immune to paralysis, phantasms, and poison.' Reminds Charlyl, 'Does phantasms means all illusions? If not, maybe we can lure them away from the entrance with one? With luck, Vhorun and I can hit them from nearby rocks before they can sound the alarm, but we'll have to do it fast. They can turn invisible, if our intel is correct."

'An alternative is for me to pretend that I am a messenger from House R’zin' signs Charlyl with a smile, 'That might buy you guys some time to close in on them, but it'll be a much riskier plan.'

Duergar facts from Ghaun'mere: immune to paralysis, phantasms, and poison. Stability - Duergar receive a +4 racial bonus to their CMD against bull rush or trip attempts while on solid ground. Spell-Like Abilities - Duergar can cast enlarge person and invisibility each once per day,

Male Drow Noble Conjurer 7

Signing, "I can become invisilbe and hit them with a spell that might put them down. Once it goes off, you all rush them."
Cast shield, protection from evil, then invisibility. I will move forward cautiously and cast color spray where i can hit as many of them as possible.

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

"Do you want me to lure them into better positions so you can hit them all? If not, I am going to hide by the closet rocks and attack on your go."

I plan to sneak first to the rocks at O32~35, then to the ones at the V&W columns. Do I need to roll a stealth check for sneaking to O32~35? It's very close to the woods.

Female Drow Cleric 7

"We will use the cover of these rocks on the left side. We can get close enough to take them by surprise without the need to lure them. Luring is risky."

Miu takes out her shield and mace.

"Any combat we can handle but we need to take out anyone trying to raise the alarm. Ghaun'mere, if anyone turns invisible, you need to stop their magic. Now let's go in silence."

Rolls for when we stick with this plan.
Stealth:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
When we attack I will attack the Duergar in AD25, risking AoO.
Attack and dmg:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 171d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
if we're discovered before melee I'll cast Hold Person on one Duergar on the run before attacking.

trying to make sense of the order of your plans

Miu and Charlyl will sneak round as close as they can and wait for Ghaun to cast colourspray, and then all charcters will run in

Vhorun what do you want to do?

i think the pc's can sneak round and get to Y8 (which is the closet you can get without being seen, assuming you make your stealth check)

ALL pc's who are moving need to make one stealth check

(Ghaun you get invis bonus of 20 but dont get the cloak bonus as well)

Ghaun will go first i assume, what square do you want to cast from, and are you going to wait for the other PC's to get into position before you cast?

M Drow Fighter 7

stealth 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21

I will follow and make a charge followed by a cleave attack if possible. If not i'll go with a normal charge

power attack 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 12 + 2 = 28
Damage 1d10 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18
power attack Cleave 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 12 + 2 = 32
Damage 1d10 + 17 ⇒ (3) + 17 = 20

crit 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 12 + 2 = 16
damage 1d10 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

Charlyl will sneak with the group then charge out with Vhorun to attack.

stealth 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (18) + 20 = 38

attack & dmg 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 191d10 + 4 + 3d6 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (2, 4, 1) = 13

you all succeed on your stealth (even with a roll of a one Ghaun will succeed!)so..
the suprise round will begin with Ghauns action of casting colorspray
so if he can tell me what square he is casting from and who he thinks he will hit

im sorry guys! but on the suprise round you will not be able to charge because you will start behind a rock (for cover) and therefore cannot directly charge at the duergar (i am assuming that you are behind the rock at V8 (and it is too far to charge in a suprise round)
so on you suprise round probably all you will be able to do is move towards the duergar and hope you beat them on inaitive in round one

BTW good roleplaying MIU! order the males around!!

the duergar are playing their game, they all seem to have googles on, probably to protect against the sun
they have shields,2 daggers, a warhammer and a light crossbow

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

I assume we're all attacking the duergars (if there are any) who will happen to resist the color spray?

Ghaun i think you can only get three duergar
so thats 1 2 and 3
or 4 3 and 2

Ravi

Male Drow Noble Conjurer 7

Move to AB 29 and cast on d2, 3, & 4.
Stealth:
1d20 + 24 ⇒ (7) + 24 = 31

suprise round
ghaun casts his spell and
i roll two 2s and a 5!! they all fail their saves!

du4 and du3 are out cold, they slump over the table
du 2 is blinded and stunned

the other three pc's move towards the duergar

Round one the pcs win on inaitive

i will use previous rolls,
charlyl moves over to du1 and kills him with one blow, before he even gets up.

vhorun charges over to du2 and hits him for 18 damage, but he is still up, Miu follows in and finished him off

I will stop combat at this point, you have about 20 seconds to decide what to do
you have 2 remaining duergar (du 4 and du3) who are uncouncious
and two dead ones

Rav

Male Drow Noble Conjurer 7

Ghaun'mere draws his sword and signs to his cousins, "Interrogate or clean and move on? The spell will only last a few seconds."

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

"Interrogate," says Charlyl as he quickly gets out rope to tie up the unconscious duergars, "Orrin says the mine layout has changed. We need to update our map as well as find out when their relief are coming."

Charlyl looks over at Miu and smiles, "Let's find a nice and quiet spot where you and Vhorun can get to 'work.'"

Female Drow Cleric 7

"Excellent fight and good thinking there boys. Vhorun, as soon as one of them opens his eyes you slit the other one's throat in front of him. It will save us time. See what you can get him to tell you.
You two..."

Miu points to Charlyl and Ghaun'mere

"..stand on look out. "

Miu will listen carefully to what the duergar will tell, wary of deceit (sense motive). She'll let Vhorun know when she thinks the duergar's lying.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

ok, the duergar are tied up,
they wake and look confused

vhorun, its over to you, are you going do what miu has told you to do?
if you do as ordered can you also roll me an intimidate roll and say what questions you are asking the duergar

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

Just out of curiosity, out of the 4 duergars, did any one looks like a leader? I assume we went over their bodies, stripping weapons and personal affects. Did we find anything that would indicate which duergar might be more senior?

Female Drow Cleric 7

ooh good question, obviously no leaderthroats should be harmed before information has been extracted. After that Miu doesn't care. hehe

OOC ghaun would have noticed that du2 did not go down when he was hit by the colourspray instead he seemed stunned, more powerful characters suffer less effects from colourspray, also du2 needed two hits to go down

du2 did not seem to be armed any different to the others others
but he does have a small badge on his arm which suggest that he had a rank of sergeant (unfortuntely du2 is dead!)

BTW the flow of time will affect the outcome of this adventure (ie dont take to long!)

M Drow Fighter 7

”With pleasure, mistress” Vhorun answer, bowing low with an evil grin.

- - - - - - - -
As soon as the dwarf open his eyes Vhorun roughly stuffs a piece of cloth into his mouth and pushes his head hard against the stone. Putting his head only inches from the duergars he says in a low threatening voice ”We need some answers from you. If you want to live you will give us those answers. Do you understand? Trust me, I have little patience for dwarfs left.”. With a push towards the stone he release his hold on the duergars head and pull out their map of the complex. He looks at the dwarf, his anger suddenly disappeared.

”Now, we know you keep some young dwarfs as prisoners..” he says unfolding their map of the complex. ”..Point out where the young ones are being kept. How many guards are there and what are their shifts?”. He pulls out the cloth he stuffed ind the duergars mouth and clean the dagger wich he used to kill the other prisoner in it.

If he starts talking i will ask him about the following and anything else the others add. Who are the drow that leads you and what do they get out of it? I will also ask him about guard shifts, numbers of guarded rooms, number of duergar soldiers and make him point out their positions on the map

intimidate 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

"Make sure to be quick with this one," says Charlyl casually over his shoulders, "the last guy took days to die and I am still trying to get the smell out of my clothes."

Aid Another: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

I am interested in any traps they might have set up. Also, what is the relationship between duergars and the resident drow? Maybe we can stir up a little trouble...

Male Drow Noble Conjurer 7

Ghaun sheaths his sword and draws his wand. Looking anoyed over his shoulder at his cousins he signs, "make it quick."
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

the dwarf looks really intimdated!!
i will tell you everthing you want to know,...... (he looks at the map for a minute and then speaks quite fast!)your map looks really good! there is not really anytything that is different the younlings are in that room (I 20) and there are two gauths who guard them. there are guards on both entrances four at the back one and 8 at the front and the treasure room always has a guard, we change guard shifts every 12 hours, the miners work 12 hours and then rest 12 hours, the boss says they work better if they are treated well so we dont mess with them, the Boss is a powerful cleric called Lady Nala, we have a commander called Arack he is a powerful fighter. there are 7 other drow like you one is a wizard, i dont really know much more, we never go in their rooms, there is trip alarm here at (points at d8)
and there is a magic symbol trap here (points at g10)you say Lady Nala as you go past and it does not go off, there are no other traps! i dont know anything else we are all loyal soldiers of house R'zinn!

(sense motive)the duergar is terrifed!! he does not seem like he is lying and he seems genuinely scared

[ note... common drow practice (in your city) is to have trained soldiers of other races, these soldiers are often treated reasonably well, they get a (very) small wage and can get promoted, although not above a drow noble. these solders are considered an investment so they tend to get good food and equipment, drow houses have discovered that it is better to have less solders who are better trained and motivated then have a large horde who lack dicipline and run at the first sign of trouble, a trained dwarf can give you a 100 years of fighting! ]

Male Noble Drow Rogue 7

"When is the next guard shift coming?" Asks Charlyl while signing simultaneously "We should get going soon, kill him?"

The house soldier bit is quite interesting. I always thought any soldier who is not a drow is automatically a slave. Competent soldiers (such as duergars) are often mercenaries for hire and they get paid quite well. *shrug

Charlyl Rilynghym wrote:

its a matter of perspective!! they are still slaves, just valuable slaves!

M Drow Fighter 7

While the duergar is talking Vhorun walks behind him, ready to cut his throat when they no longer need him. On Miu's cue he will do so.
