Stormchildren (custom race)

Homebrew and House Rules

I was asked to post this custom race when it came up tangentially in another thread. It is themed around the concept of a young boy with startling elemental powers, which I conceived long ago :) I originally wrote it for 3.5, but it's easily Pathfinderised.

Stormchildren appear to be pre-teenage humans (approximately 10 - 12 years old), who stand roughly 4' to 4'6" tall and weigh roughly 5 - 7 stones (70 - 100 lbs).

Size/Type: Medium Humanoid (human).
Ability modifiers: -2 Str, +2 Dex, -2 Con, -2 Wis, +2 Cha
Ageless: Stormchildren have no maximum age and do not age (magically or otherwise). They have no ageing categories and will always appear to be roughly 10 - 12 years old
Elemental Heritage: Stormchildren gain Survival and Swim as automatic class skills. When they reach their 6th character level, Fly (with a +4 manoeuvrability bonus) also becomes a class skill.
Elemental Resistance: Stormchildren gain cold and electricity resistance: 5 and gain +1 to all saves vs. spells which involve air, cold, electricity or water.
Human Blood: For all effects relating to race, Stormchildren are considered to be both human and Stormchildren.
Favoured Class: Either Warlock or Sorcerer (Elemental bloodline only).
Languages: Automatic: Common; Bonus: Aquan, Auran, Draconic.
Level Adjustment: +1.

Stormchildren also gain the following abilities as they gain class levels. These are accumulated according to their character level, not their individual class levels.
Storm-touched (Su): At 1st-level, Stormchildren gain a constant endure elements effect and their body and worn equipment remain dry in even the fiercest storms, unless they are fully immersed in water.
Storm-sight (Ex): At 2nd-level, they gain 60' darkvision and can see up to 60 feet unhindered in fog and heavy rain.
Aquatic Adaptation (Ex): At 4th-level, they gain a Swim speed equal to their base land speed and can breathe and see unhindered whilst underwater. Their body and all worn equipment are impervious to water damage and instantly dry upon leaving the water.
Storm-step: At 6th-level, if in a storm or strong wind (21+ mph), they gain a Fly speed equal to their base land with good manoeuvrability. They are otherwise unaffected by strong wind.

Pathfinder doesn't have Level Adjustment.

This is an awesome race. Looks like a perfect fit for the druid class and the Stormlord PrC. A paladin or cleric of Gozreh would be cool to play too. Good job!

Yes, I know that, but I did note that this was devised for D&D 3.5, not Pathfinder.

Thank you :) I try my best!

I could have sworn I wrote stormchildren for CCII... but my memory is terrible.

Either way, cool to see them again. ;)

Honestly, in PF, I think those stats would make it a race with no need for LA.

The special abilities are nice, but highly situational.

I think I actually agree with you, especially as they're effectively 4 stat points down on other races. Consider them to have no LA in PF then :)

The Stormchildren are supposed to be a "child" race, right? Making them Small explains the -2 Str and the +2 Dex. It would also give nice fluff for the -2 Wis and +2 Cha, since children are generally well liked and easily lied to.

The Wheather Witchlings(Example Stormchildren): A pair of girls who protect mountain ranges from those who would riddle them with tunnels. They have been around so long they have slipped into legend, but like all legends, there is a grain of truth...

Spoiler:
Lyra Stormcaller (Elder Sister): She is the one travelers are most likely to see first. She won't let the corrupt cross her mountain.

Lyra is a Druid5/Stormlord8 with the Wheather domain.

Kirel Torncloud(Younger Sister): The legends argue if this sister even exists, so rarely is she seen. One thing can be agreed upon though, her skill with lightning is amazing to behold.. and often deadly. It is also said she can see into the hearts of travelers. She will not tolerate an evil heart crossing her mountains.

Kirel is a (Storm)Paladin2/Elemental(Air) Sorcerer6.

I will post the stats in the morning, but if someone else would like too make them, be my guest. We could probably make an army of Stormchildren if we wanted too... >:)

well, they are supposed to be children, yes, but if they were Small, they'd have to be very young indeed. When I was 10, I was only 4 feet tall and I was definitely one of the shortest in my year. By the time I was 12, I was 4'6" and then I was noticeably very short. The really poor stats should give the theme of being pre-teens without actually using the size modifier.

I like your idea for sample Stormchildren :)

So the possibility for Small Stormkids exists? Or is that for when you apply the Young template?

And thank you!

It seems new races are all the rage right now. So far I've seen Sciurid(squirrel folk), Shrew folk(see Sciurid thread), Gargoyles(based of the Disney cartton), and now Stormchildren. You race-makers should get a PbP going with your respective races being your character.

A PbP featuring only custom races would be quite cool :P

I suppose it's not outside the realms of possibility to have Small Stormchildren, but humans around 10-12 just aren't Small. 7-8 year-olds might be, but I wanted to avoid the potential squick of young children as fully-fledged adventurers.

Being as they're biologically too young to reproduce, I imagine that they are created either accidentally or as part of a specific curse. I can't imagine anyone voluntarily wanting to be stuck in the body of a 12-year-old boy! :)
