Okay, there has been a lot of talk of which politicians people miss. I say politicians come and go, but pundits are around for awhile. And that is why I miss Tim Russert. He was never partisan in his interviews and asked everyone the tough questions. He asked the questions that I would have asked. The fact that he was able to see both sides of the issue is evidenced by the fact that his funeral got Rush Limbaugh and Keith Olbermann in the same room without it being a Texas cage grudge match. I realized that Meet The Press will not be the same without him when the invited the founder of the Daily Kos to sit on the panel of experts. I am tired of only having the options of Beck and Hannity on the right or Matthews and Stewert on the left. Give me someone in the middle like Timm Russert any day and let me make my own decisions about the candidates and issues.

In general I avoid pundits of all stripes, so I wasn't familiar with Mr. Russert's work, which, thanks to your characterization, I now sadly regret.
And yeah, the founder of the Daily Kos hardly seems an appropriate replacement for the man you describe.

Well the founder of Daily Kos was not on as a replacement host, he was a member of the roundtable. Now I agree that the Daily Kosers have a voice, but he was very hateful towards anyone who disagreed with him. think they could have found someone less partisan to be to voice of that side of the discussion.

Tim Russert was one of the best journalists I ever had the good fortune to see. His ability to remain impartial, and willingness to ask the hard questions from his guests without fear of consequences was truly unique in this day and age.
Russert never let anyone off the hook, and called many a politician on their attempts to dodge a question or avoid an answer.
If more journalists were like him, we wouldn't have the Right vs. Left mentality that so permeates journalism today.
Heck, I even miss his "Go Bills" statement at the end of the show during football season.
God Bless you, Tim Russert. You were the last of a dying breed, and are truly missed.

And don't forget the white board "score keeping" during election coverage. CNN goes crazy with the high-tech touch screen maps, zooming in and out to show results. Tim just held up a small dry erase board with a number on it, say "11", to show how many electoral votes were needed to secure the win. Perfect.
I miss Tim too.
