The thread title is slightly misleading, but anyway here is the scenario, which I am sure is not RAI, but when I need to defend it rules wise I guess I might need an answer:
Let's say I summon a T-Rex or any other animal that can swallow. The animal swallows its opponent and I dismiss it. What happens to the person/creature that is swallowed? Do they leave with the animal?
I can only think of using DM Fiat at the moment since there is no reason to not allow the "prisoner" to be whisked away.

I can see this either way. You could rule it goes poof, or you could rule as the summoned just vanish back, any living creature they hold( or inside them) simply does not vanish with em.
I myself would go with the 2nd option. Coarse after your "ride" vanishes your now a few feet off the ground and kinda prone. So that kills that round as ya hit the ground

That sounds like trying to permanently get rid of an object by giving it a summoned creature to carry or swallow, then dismissing it. As a DM I'd not just say no, I'd whack you with a nerf bat. *grin*
The summoned creature is not of whatever place it's being summoned to. That's why a summon's body vanishes when it is "killed". Dismissing a summoned creature leaves behind anything it was given while it was "here".

At first my thought, was what if the monster is killed before someone can escape, then I remembered summons can be dismissed.
I know its cheese, and I laughed when I thought of it, because it was so ridiculous. Then I realized somewhere someone has tried it, or is going to try it one day. Then I tried finding a way to say no, other than DM fiat, and figured I should post the idea here.| Malisteen |
Lacking a specific rule, the closest equivalent rule is held items, which a summoned creature does not take with it when it vanishes. So I'd say the swallowed object or creature is similarly dropped when the summon spell ends.
Could result in something of a mess, if you somehow have a summon spell capable of lasting 6 to 12 hours. ew.

Got a page number? Cause under both summon monster and the {summon} subschool it doesn't say that.
