Speaking of monkeys, did you get your card yet?

The Exchange

Well folks, I have a promise of GI Joe and Barbie time to keep.

(The Joes are on a rescue mission to save Barbie from the evil mechanical dinosaur.) :P

Not yet. I have a feeling a lot of mail got backed up due to the blizzard. It's still a total mess out here. :(

Liberty's Edge

Snow flurries possible in Dallas for tomorrow; I don't know if it'll be a white Christmas but it'll be a cold one.

The Exchange

Bookmarking while the kids set up scenario 2 post.

The Exchange

We are under a BLIZZARD warning until 12 noon on Christmas {did you know that noon meant 9 not 12, or even middle of the day?}

It always seemed to snow in El Paso right around Christmas. Then Armageddon would hit and the entire city would shut down until the 1/4 inch melted. For a New Englander like me it was quite hilarious to see.

Liberty's Edge

I grew up in Florida. It iced and snowed one day in 30 years, so I just didn't drive.

So I get to Dallas, and on ice days, my boss wonders why he, the guy from Louisiana, and I, the guy from Fla, are the only ones there...

Tha's funny that is!

Liberty's Edge

I remember the first time, at this other place I worked; they were calling to see if people were coming in to work.
I says, "I don't know."
So they says, "come on; it's not that bad. You can do it."
So then I says, "oh, I'm coming. I grew up in Florida.
Ergo, I have no idea of I'm gonna make it. How the flip would I know?"

I can remember delivering pizzas in a Geo Metro after a storm dumped 2 feet on us. My boss insisted, despite the fact a snowplow had buried my little car in a 10-foot snowbank. Then I had to drive my three-banger all over town trying to deliver pizzas from everyone who was desperate for delivery. Half the roads weren't even plowed yet. Good times, good times ...

The Exchange

hey Heathansson check out the Rorschach thread.

Have you ever noticed that every thread that MiB posts in eventually leads to him refering to Angel Summoner and BMX Bandit? Makes you wonder doesn't it?

Yes and I never understood the references.

It's a reference to a British sketch comedy show. I googled it. You can watch the video on YouTube if you so desire.

Edit: Ninjaed by the monkey.

Awakened monkey ninja ftw!

I've watched the beginning part of it, and yeah I don't get it.

Basically the Angel Summoner can dispach all the bad guys without the BMX Bandit helping. Kind of a analogy of a 'optimized' character and a 'sub-optimal' character. The Optimized guy gets all the glory and the sub-optimal is the funny sidekick.

Phwew! Kids can really wear a fellow out. Ya'll have a good night, and for those that I won't get a chance to say this to later, Merry Christmas. Sharoth, I hope we get a chance to talk to you tomorrow, I don't know what your plans are but if I don't Merry Christmas buddy. :)

Yeah I'm beat after my day of driving around in snowville. Take care all :)

We had a heck of a time removing MacAfee from my in-laws machine. It's worse than the viruses it's supposed to protect you from. Bleh.

RPG Superstar 2012

Looks like I missed most everyone.

Good night and Merry Christmas to you all. I should be back tomorrow during the day.

The Exchange

You know its weird we use McAfee exclusively both at my work and here at home and I have yet to have had a problem one with it.

Tell me about it, and now I don't know how to get it off. I decided to try the free trial offer, and now I want something that I can actually update in some way. Anyone know some decent free antivirus software I could attempt to replace it with? (Or is McAfee a firewall? I really should keep better track of these things.)

EDIT: Oh, I think I willingly put either McAfee or some other free trial on my laptop too. I had to delete the thing from the hard drive once the trial expired so I could actually turn the Windows firewall back on.

Kinda like Altai and the rest of you guys.

Except when there's a skullcrusher ogre barbarian that can throw orc shotputs 100 feet at Altai...or whatever the next higher-level equivalent is. Then a fighter's kinda nice.
I noticed they can write Justice League comics with Superman and Batman slap-ass in the comics and everything, except Superman way outclasses Batman.
Yeah: so they gotta give some guy kryptonite numchuks sometimes, so Batman can dunk that guy and grab the limelight. But wtf?

The Exchange

the 2 or 3 big ones are "security suites" which include several options including firewalls.

I had a problem with others not being able to be removed with the first try but I honestly have never had an issue with McAfee.

AVG I think in the largest freeware that is an anti virus. I can not speak of how well it works.

All antivirus's have the same issue though. They are reactive and very little is proactive. Meaning if there is a new virus that they have not been programed for. They don't even recognize it as such. Always make sure you run updates for them whether you have it on automatic or not and run a full scan even if it runs in the background which any good antivirus should.

I don't know if it was the version my in-laws were using, but it would block programs that had been running fine the day before and it seemed to slow down their computer a lot.

I've never personally used McAfee.

I gotta take a break from that stuff for a day.

It's starting to eat my soul.

One problem I have noticed with many free trails is if you do not pay for it when the trail is up it locks up your internet connection. It is always best to remove it before the trial is up and get yourself a different one. Your high speed cable operator many times offers a free one. Most of the times this is a win win situation for your cable operator since your service works better and you are happy. Plus they are able to pay for it in bulk and give you a freebee.

RPG Superstar 2012

I've got to say that some people have...unique...perspectives on what counts as being insane. But as I am already there, maybe I'm not the best person to make judgments.

Yeah I have made my last post there. I had a quote from an interview with the Alan Moore saying Rorschach was meant to be mentally disturbed. But others are taking that means he is not meant to be insane. its like splitting hairs or discussing colors with a blind man. I am through with it.

We've just started using Avast, which is free. I will have to see how it works over a few months. I really can't tell anything from it running for 10 days.

The Exchange

I have heard avast is not bad. I however have not used it in about 6 years so I have no current info to give you on it. In the past I did use it for the firewall and it did something that no other firewall did at the time, which is it gave you the IP address or other info from whom so ever tried to contact your modem.
