Does anyone know of feats that will decrease the armor penalty for cavaliers? I know the order of the sword has the mounted mastery ability, and the animal affinity will help with the penalty while riding. Short of multi classing into fighter is there anyway to reduce these penalties? Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't worry about it, to quote the second paragraph of the cavalier Mount ability:
"A cavalier does not take armor check penalties on RIDE checks whilst riding his mount."
If your after a feat that will decrease your check penalty all round, then Im not sure, If your GM is allowing 3.5 feats then go to the FEAT INDEX on the wizards webiste, other than that multiclass seems like the option.

Stay mounted... as long as you're mounted the penalties do not apply.

The penalties apply, except for Ride checks - however, when you're mounted, your mount is the one doing most of the things you'd incur armor check penalties for.
When I statted up a Cavalier, I put most of his ability points in DEX in order to have a really good ride check, and I eventually gave him masterwork breastplate and a magical shield, which allowed him to keep his full DEX bonus to AC and kept the armor check penalties from being too harsh.
