How do the half-elf rules work with elven weapon proficiencies? Would half-elves treat this (and other elven weapons) as martial weapons or is that for elves only and so the half-elves would have to take a feat?
Half-elves have Elf Blood as a racial bonus which means they count as both elves and humans for purposes of any effects related to race.

Uhm, no, I'm sorry, that's not right. What that entry means for half-elves is that they are affected by Ranger's Favored Enemey for both Human and Elf. They can wear/use any equipment with a limitation of 'Elf Only'. They count as elves for 'Detection' spells if you are looking for elves in the area (humans too if you look for humans). They also are both elves and humans for purposes of things like slay <race> spells (or Slay arrows of Arcane Archers).
It does not mean they get all the elf traits. If they did, they'd be a very powerful race. Half-elves have to take exotic weapon proficiency for elven long blades just like any human.

That makes the most sense, otherwise they would be quite overpowered. I just wanted to make sure before I rolled up my character with the wrong feats :) Thanks for the quick replies!

I vaguely recall a thread (that I can't seem to find using the forum search at the moment) about the availability of a Campaign Trait somewhere that gives half-elves the ability to treat weapons with the word "Elven" in the description as martial weapons. This relies on the (questionable) cases of
1) If I'm remembering correctly
2) The character is already proficient with all martial weapons or it doesn't help much
3) Your campaign uses traits
4) You're willing to burn a trait on it.
5) The DM has no heartburn with it.
