A Question Regarding Monstrous PCs

Rules Questions

Dark Archive

I believe I understand the rules for Monstrous PCs as outlined in the Bestiary, but there is one point that does not seem to be explicitly stated and I wished to get feedback. Specifically it involves monsters who have a different amount of HD than their CR. Take for example the oft-cited Minotaur. CR 4, 6HD. A standard, no class level Minotaur has 6 hit dice and counts as Character Level (CrL) 4, Class Level (CL) 0. The character has the skill ranks and feats of a 6th level character. So... from this point forward, does the character gain feats, attribute points, etc, based on total HD or on CrL?

Example: Minotaur

Add one level of Barbarian: total HD 7, total CrL 5 (Either way it is odd, so a feat would be gained.)

Add a second level of Barbarian: total HD 8, total CrL 6 (HD at 8, does that mean the character gains an attribute point?)

Half way to CrL 7 add one bonus level of Barbarian: total HD 9, total CrL 6 (HD now odd, would the character now gain another feat?)

Add yet another level of Barbarian: total HD 10, total CrL 7 (Or is it based on CrL, not HD, and thus the next feat is gained now, and the next attribute point at the next level?)

What do people think?

The character gains feats and attribute points based on total number of HD.
