Sorry if this has been asked before....

Do invisible creatures still automatically provoke AoOs if they move out of a threatened space? For instance, if an invisible Bone Devil tries to back out of a threatened space to cast a Wall of Ice, does the PC armed with a melee weapon get an AoO?

I ruled Yes in our last game session, and wanted to make sure I was correct.

That's a good one. As far as the rules are concerned, I'd say you are correct, especially if the PC knew that the devil was there.

I'd probably not allow the AoO if the character wasn't aware though.

Hmmm. Good point. Help my memory, do the rules require a Perception check (with the -20 penalty) to locate an invisible target before an AoO can be made?

No, you can't take an attack of opportunity against an opponent with total concealment (invisible), even if you're aware the opponent is there.

Now, if you have an ability to negate the total concealment caused by invisibility (blindsight, glitterdust, see invisibility, invisibility purge, faerie fire, flour, etc.) you can take the AoO.

Ahhhh, that's what I was looking for. Thanks!

Man, I gave my players all sorts of breaks last game session. Time for some payback. ;-)

One related question I have regarding this topic is if you start casting an attack spell on an adjacent enemy when does the invisibility (non-improved) break? At the start of the casting (which would provoke an AoO) or after you are done casting (no AoO)?

How would a ranged attack against an adjacent enemy work in the same situation?

After the action is complete.

Ok thanks!
