Hey all..
Sometimes I'm one of the first to get a book, and sometimes I'm one of the last to get a book.
Rather than whine about not getting CoT #27 yet (because it will be probably mailed Monday anyway), I thought I'd just ask those that have gotten it already to talk about the Hellknight Prc.
You know, to tie me over for another day or two.
I have a player who has been waiting a long time for it, and has actually taken a few more levels in fighter than they originally intended, just to wait for it.
Is it cool?
Is the initiation requirement in interesting?
Any cool mechanical stuff about the class?
(This post assumes that some people have received it already by now)

Not much help I know, but the requirements are listed in the free CoT players guide already. I haven't had a chance to take a look at the book yet.

It's a thirteen level class.
The entry requirements include, all martial weapons, heavy armour, must be Lawful and must defeat a devil of equal hit dice singlehandedly, and this must be witnessed by an existing Hellknight.
The class is built very much like a Paladin of Law with abilities like Smite Chaos. Each order of Hellknights gets specific powers and at higher levels you can get additional powers from a list (including at very high level the abilities of other orders).
You do have to provide your own armour, though, so make sure you've got a good amount of cash handy. Although your customised suit does make moving easier (get fighterish movement bonuses at higher levels but only in your special armour).
Is that enough to tide you over, Watcher?
EDIT: A pointed out by Sniggevert, it's actually a 15 level class.

It's a fifteen level PrC. Though they did mention that more on the rituals would be in this issue in the player's guide, there isn't any fluff info in regards to the rituals themselves.
From AP #27:
GMs in search of even more information on
these paragons of order, including their origins, deepest
philosophies, and the mysteries of their impregnable
citadels, should see “Path of the Hellknights” in Pathfinder
Adventure Path volume #28.
Overall a very neat prestige class IMO.

Hmmm..
15 levels you say? Sounds like my player could have used this back at 5th level... but then I'm not sure our existing campaign will make it to level 20 anyway.
Are there any rules regarding the defeat of this devil? Other than it be singlehanded?
Is there enough background for me to logically point to which order she should join, being based out of Magnimar? Or is that decision more attitudinal in nature?
(We're doing Runelords)

Probably the Order of the Nail as they're based out of Magnimar, but the orders are attitudinal, mostly depending on which flavour of chaos, individuality or lawlessness they wish to confront.

Yeah, it's the full 15 levels. Depends on your take on the situation, but if the character had been leaning towards this for awhile, I might let them trade out levels to fully do the prestige class since the information was available when it would have been relevant to switch. That's just me though, obviously.
They give no indication, other than the battle with the devil would need to be witnessed by a Hellknight. They don't even say that it has to be in single combat, though that is somewhat implied.
The specific order is based on the player's personal attitude and what is their specific belief is for a lawful thrust. The Order of the Nail does is the only real outpost in Varisia that I can remember, but there's nothing stating that the trial has to be witnessed by a Hellknight of the intended order, just that it needed to be by a Hellknight. Being a strong lawful organization, I would assume a sworn oath by a member of one order would be enough for the requirement.
Anywho, the Nail would be a good one for an adventurer anyways, since they try to quell the "savages" on the fringe of civilization.
