Casting Defensively Question

Rules Questions

Sovereign Court

In beta there was an increase in the difficulty in casting defensivly if there were more opponents around while you were attemtping to cast. I no longer see mention of that rule.

As a player I ran my character up next to a caster to try to impede their casting, but once I got there I couldn't find any mention that my presence in addition to the fighter's presence in any way made casting defensively more difficult.

Did I just not look hard enough? Or is it no harder to cast defensively when being attacked by 8 goblins than when being attacked by 1?

That rule is gone. Only the Disruptive feat now increases the failure chance of casting defensively. Furthermore, casting defensively is usually a pretty bad deal unless you have certain feats/traits and your spellcasting modifier is maxed out.

A level 17 wizard with a 19 Int has a 55% chance to fail casting 9th level spells (+21 vs DC 33) while casting defensively.

A level 17 wizard with a 28 Int, Combat Casting, and the Focused Mind trait has a 0% chance of failing to cast 9th level spells (+32 vs DC 33) while casting defensively.
