Pathfinder at Dragonmeet - London - 28th November

Local Play

Grand Lodge 5/5 ****

I thought I start a new thread as it is slowly taking shape.

I've had a chat with Russ yesterday and we agreed on the adventures to play.

Russ will start first with scenario 5 - Mists of the Mwangi

I will follow after that game with scenario 35 - Voice in the Void

Both games are aimed at the starting tier (1-2)

We do have from 10:00-20:00 - to get two full games in we will have to start early.

My suggestion is: First game 10:45 start
Second Game 15:30 start

My plan is to build up most of scenario 2 using Dwarvenforge Scenery (Realm of the Ancients). I just played around with it and managed to get all I need for the first part in 2 white boxes. I hope this will give the game a nice visual treat. So if you see someone with a blue suitcase rolling behind him - that is likely me.

Interested players (reserved) so far are:
Game 1:
Theodum (player Thod)
new character (player Nessaja)
Andrina (player DM Wellard)

Game 2:
??? (player Russ)
new character (player Nessaja)

DM Wellard - could you please confirm. I did place you in the first game as it seemed you would have to leave by 6pm. Please let us know if you are okay with such and early start.

As far as Russ told me - the Con is show up - grab a table - advertise a game on the notice-board. Feel free to reserve a space here - but drop by the table at least 10 minutes before game to confirm or we might give the space away to other interested players.

If there are other interested GMs showing up - please let me know.

Looking forward to Dragonmeet and meeting some of you there

Excellent Thod.

I might be able to make it in the afternoon and so might be interested in playing for a change!

With the news that Erik is going to be there you might get a few more people interested in coming along too.

Are there any Pathfinders from around Oxford coming? I'd really like to come, but I'd rather not come alone...I'm American, you see, and I've only just figured out where things are in Oxford...

Would be great if you could manage to come around. Just reserve your space as soon as you know.
Thanks for the news that Erik Mona will be at Dragonmeet as well. It hasn't been announced on the Dragonmeet website - but that one is pretty out of date anyhow.

Thod

Whoo hoo we get to meet Erik...that just made my day..must start practicing my genuflections

Thod I'm definitely up for the 10.45 start..I played with Russ at Paizocon so at least we know each other slightly.

Looks like Rob Silk and I will be coming along. If there's demand for more tables then one of us will run something, otherwise you've got some more potential players.m

That sounds great. It seems I won't have to worry to get the table filled. And thanks for the offer to get another table running if there is a lot of interest.

Here are some latest news. I just got contacted by the organizer. It seems Erik is planning a morning game and I was kindly asked to ensure I don't clash.

What does this mean? Well - keep visiting here and I keep you updated.

Option 1:
All players from the first game just move on and play under Erik - this should allows Russ to game as well.

Option 2:
We keep the game as backup in case there are too many players who want to play with Erik.

I haven't talked to Erik, I don't know the time he wants to GM, I don't know the tier, I don't know the scenario.

So please come back here and I will update you with any information I get.

Thod

I'd go with option 2 personal experience of Dragonmeet would suggest that the demo games are oversubscribed anyway and I don't think Erik would want PFSUK to suffer just because he is present

Yes - looks like option 2 after all. I did get a reply from Erik. He will be showing a demonstration game - but this won't be PathFinder Society - rather a specific game created for conventions.

I just need to ensure the organizers that we don't clash with Erik - and then we should be fine. Should phone them later today again as I need to confirm they actually are open until 20:00.

Just try to be around early.

I hope here is the final information regarding the slots. At least this is what I have send to the organizers. I still need to phone Russ tonight.

Dragonmeet - opening time 10:00 (GM's get in earlier)

Morning Slot - start 10:30
GM Russ
Scenario #5 - Tier 1-2

Afternoon Slot - start 14:30
GM Thod
Scenario #35 - Tier 1-2

The eagle eyed of you will notice that there is no break between the games if we assume four hours game time. Unfortunately this seems to be fixed times for the game and there isn't much of a choice. Officially the CON ends at 18:00.

As there is an auction at 18:00 - and as I'm told they are likely to be open longer I intend to play the full 4 hour slot for the afternoon. But please come prepared (food, drinks) if you want to game in both slots. The will be time for a quick toilet break - I also aim not to kill you if you need one during the game - but the break between games will be very minimal.
I did ask to ensure both games are at the same table. This should ease everything a little bit.
If you want to see something of the show AND play both games, then reserve your space at 10:00. This will give you some 20/25 minutes.

Sorry - this is the best I can do to ensure we have 2 full slots.

Erik Mona will be the GM for a Pathfinder Demo Game in the morning. This is NOT Pathfinder Society. I assume he will start 10:30 as well.

Quick question, hopefully a Paizonian can answer:

I just tried to buy a ticket, and Paypal seemed to suggest it would be posted to me. Is that true? I'm not sure I'll get the ticket in time if that is the case. Am I stupidly missing something? Is it too late for me to buy online?

It took 2 days for my ticket to arrive so you should be fine.

With the postage costs though you don't save much on a full price ticket by getting it in advance. You can get a ticket at the door.

Make sure you print out your receipt so if your ticket hasn't arrived by Saturday then you should be able to use that.

Wintergreen did beat me. I had started answering - but didn't finish before on my way to work.

As of yesterday I was told by Angus if you pre-order until today, then they will send it out - othervice it will be collected at the door. I ordered one yesterday and asked in the comment to leave it at the door.

There is a £1.60 for shipping - therefore the saving is minimal for a single card. I also couldn't change it (despite me wanting to pick it up at the door). Well - I left a remark they should add it to the proceeds of the auction.

Do we see you at the game?

Thanks. Yep, I'll be there. I've (probably pretty obviously) never done this before, so I'm not real clear on how to reserve spots or anything, but I am definitely hoping to play!

It's the first time for me as well. So no worries.

I just solicit reservations here on the board and do my best to uphold them aka defend the spaces. Not sure what the organizers have planned - but by the time I find out I will probably already sit at the table / host the game.

From previous experience GMs are supposed to put a sign-up sheet on the notice board and players sign up during the day. I don't think they'll stop reservations being made.

From those I know who are coming there will definitely be enough players for a game. If we have too many then I'm willing to run something too.

Well - in this case there can already be a few players filled in when I place the sheet on the board. Don't want to turn back people who voiced an early interest here. I also would be pretty upset if I wouldn't be able to play in the first game because I'm 5 min late.

The organizers are really not very forthcoming how everything works. Maybe insiders know - but I had to mail them multiple times, phone them - and only ever got a message when they got afraid I would clash with Erik.

Yes - it looks like we won't have to worry if we get the tables full.

Thod

oops - logged in as my wife ... just registered her and forgot to log out again

and corrected it again

Well looking forward to seeing eveyone tomorrow..renewing my aqqaintanceship with Dave Rob and Russ and meeting the others..

Well despite some small-but-crucial-travel-details that the convention organisers omitted from their site (such as half the tube network being shut for engineering works, or at least the Circle line, Metropolitan line, and most of the District line in central London) that otherwise seemed to go pretty well... :D

Grand Lodge 5/5 ****

I just posted some photographs from yesterday at the DF boards. If you intend to play Voices in the Void as part of the Pathfinder Society, then you shouldn't go to the photos. This is a first set of photos - the quality isn't the best and it doesn't show the full dungeon as planned. My aim is to re-create the dungeon at my leisure at some stage in the future and to add some staged photos - including my latest Otherworld monster which took down one of the players and sliced through a summoned dog in a single combat turn.

I really enjoyed the CON. In the morning we still struggled to get a full table - well - Erik Mona was running in parallel and a second Pathfinder group had a table as well. Competition therefore was fierce. Thanks for Erik to send one straggler our way to get the table to full strength. With 4 players together we had a great game. So great we forgot to put my wifes name as well as Russ (GM first game) on the sheet for the afternoon - only to find out all 6 seats were booked - and even 2 reserves showing up.
Luckily Rob Silk volunteered to run another scenario on the spot. So there should have been at least 4 Pathfinder Society tables as well as one Pathfinder one. Not sure if the other table in the morning had an afternoon slot as well?

I was pretty happy with the game as I achieved what I had as a goal - getting more new players to test out Pathfinder - and having a great time myself. It was the first two games for my wife and I think she loves her dwarf. I also managed to hand out 6 new cards to players. I hope they will return.

If you where one of them - drop me a line.

Thod

SPOILER ALERT - I do have some photos posted at the DwarvenForge boards. As this shows play in progress it also shows some map/creature information. You should only g there if you already have played Voices in the Void or don't intend to play the scenario. The link is Dragonmeet 2009 Dwarvenforge Voices in the Void. END SPOILER ALERT

A most enjoyable day...Was nice to have a few words with Erik and to play with two good groups..

Highlight for me was starting Mists of Mwangi with a critical hit on my first roll of the day..but I can now safely say that I hate monkeys

It was wonderful seeing you all at Dragonmeet, and especially getting to run my special Spire of Nex game for the five of you on Friday morning. I wish we could have run that baby for 8 hours! It would have been epic!

I hope some of you can make it out to PaizoCon US next year. I promise it will be worth the trip. I will also do my best to see if we can't get someone from the Paizo staff back out to the UK next year.

Might as well make it three years in a row, right? ;)

Sure thing Erik..unfortunately Paizocon US is outside the reach of my pocket at the moment..but We'd love to see someone from Seattle over at PCUK wouldn't we guys?

Time to start saving! Plenty of months between now and next June.

And, as I've been noticing on a daily basis for much of the last week, it's important to remember that our currency is virtually worthless compared to yours. :)

Thanks for running the game and chatting with us Erik.

It would be great to have somebody from Paizo over for PaizoCon UK. We can promise excellent hospitality and great gaming.
So tempted to go over to the US next Summer. Have to wait and see for the moment though.

I'm sure you managed to make enough beer money from your ebay auctions to enjoy London.

he'll need lots of money for what I'm planning for him when I meet him this week:)

Or to buy halflings on the underground slave market. Those auctions can get expensive.

Great you enjoyed it.

Erik

It was great to meet you - even if I hardly had time. Next time I will look at all of this a lot more relaxed. Maybe I shouldn't have stopped at the auction. In a few years to come I might regret it. My wife told me she was close to do another bit.

Russ, Dave, Rob, Chris

Great to meet you all again.

Richard, Simon, Alan, John, Gary

Thanks for playing in my game. You disappeared very fast. Drop me a line and I can send out chronicle sheets if you want to carry on playing in the PFS.

To the other Pathfinder table

Sorry - I was too busy to say hello. Was your table also PFS? Did you also have an afternoon slot? Let me know if I should report the event - event number was 1149.

All players and GMs

It was a great and enjoyable day. All tables are reported now. Please let me know if you spot any errors. If you spot a phantom session 1149 - this was my first unsuccessful attempt to report the event.

There is a good chance there is an entry with session 1149 and zero AP. This seems to be a fault in the system which doesn't delete entries which I deleted. It also seems not to erase entries if you overwrite them with someone else.

I reported issues - see GM discussion thread - feel free to read more background about what I did wrong in this thread.

I thought for Kerstin this got rectified.

Thod

I just double checked - you don't any longer show up when I look at the sessions. But I know that I have myself 2 phantom sessions (1149) showing up for me.

PS: could you do me a favour and while logged in to your account click on your name - and then on session. This should show all sessions you did GM as well as all as player.
If I do this, then the phantom sessions dissappear (I do have 4 of them - and only 2 my fault)

Hi thod
I also seem to have an entry for voices in the void ,I would like to play it but i havent yet , but cheers for reporting the session I ran .

Thod, you have learned the hard way. The reporting system is buggy and unforgiving. Best practice is to have all your information reported 100% correct on the first attempt. Going back and making edits afterward might make it look right on your screen, but the errors persist on the players' side. I have experienced both sides. I have three 'phantom' characters where organizers reported my number in games I never played. I also have players telling me their sessions are wrong when everything is in perfect order on my screen. I have accepted the system for what it is and have learned to be very meticulous about session tracking sheets and careful with my keystrokes. Reporting sessions is like using Disable Device on a high DC trap & the DC gets bumped up for every additional session you add.

Hi,

Sorry to cause more trouble, but I was in the Shipyard Rats morning session with 4 people, and I didn't happen to have my PFS number with me. Can I still get this reported if I send the number to someone or post it here?

Thanks

You must have been on the other table. Have you been the person I lend my Core Rules to generate your character?

I will try what I can do for you. Most pathfinders are pretty helpful. Unfortunately I'm nowhere close to the London RPG scene and whoever ran the scenario seems never to have posted here - at least not to my knowledge. As such I have neither a contact for the GM nor do I know him or if he reported the game.

Is there anyone around here who could help?

Dave, Rob, Russ - anyone else - do you know who was the GM at the other Pathfinder table or at least some of the other players.

With some luck we will find the GM. After all - the Pathfinder scene doesn't look that big to me yet.

Thanks for the comments. Yes - I absolutely agree. Unfortunately I was a novice GM playing up 2 tiers above my experience level.

But I survived and can tell the tale. Next time will be a lot better.

Calandra,

I believe the other tables were organised by Paul Harries. I can't remember his username on these boards but he posts on UK Roleplayers as Paul H (look on the Dragonmeet sub-forum).
