Arquebus

Homebrew and House Rules

Idly thinking while at lunch, (I can hear my DM screaming in pain now), haven't seen firearms in 3.5 or the new Pathfinder RPG book, so thought I would toss something out for consumption. (Or to cause consumption.)

Quote:

Arquebus

Cost - 500gp as a new invention; 100gp if in regular use
DMG(S) - 1d10
DMG(M) - 2d6
Critical Hit - 20 (x4)
Range - 50' (double penalties for each range increment)
Weight - 5lbs
Type - Piercing / Bludgeoning
Special - Piercing damage only applies within 30' of target; ranged touch attack within 30' of target (magical modifiers to AC apply normally); fog cloud effect after three shots; 3 rounds to reload without proficiency; 2 rounds to reload with proficiency; 1 full round to reload with Rapid Reload

It has some benefits and drawbacks.

Thoughts?

I think I've got a book called Tome of Secrets that has black-powder rules that are perfectly serviceable.

I also think a certain drow and a certain kobold are both going to wake up finding out that an ooze has invaded their bed and reduced them to skeletons of their former selves.

In my defense, you only pointed out the huge list of magic item possbilities and nothing else when you let me look at the book. LOL

Scarab Sages

The Pathfinder Campaign Setting has firearms that are much *more* serviceable. (But I may be biased, ToS is... not so good.)

Much as I like Paizo...

And I hate to keep repeating this, I feel like a zombie saying 'Brains....' over and over again...

Not everyone plays in Golarian.

Sorry, I don't, and I won't. I like Paizo's products, but, to play in Golarian requires me to buy 6 to 60 small books that are just adventure paths. I do my own game worlds and my own adventure paths. And paying $12 a pop for 1-2 pages of rules that I might adapt would the height of stupidity on my part.

If the Paizo guys ever consolidate their campaign rules into a single book, which doesn't require dozens of small adventure arcs, I'd buy it. But their business model (which they are utterly entitled to) is to sell it piecemeal, kind of like Magic decks, you get a little bit here and a little bit there, but need to 'buy them all!' to get the whole picture.

I'll wait until either they consolidate all the crunch into one book, or just forget about it and go with what I have.

Gotta buy them all!

I choose you, Golarion! *casts Summon Monster X*

Well, you have to admit, it sounds the same!

Oh and I did see a Golarion hardcover book at the FLGS.

As far as I can tell, the firearms rules are OGC. (I could be wrong, leagalese isn't my forte.)

I can't find anywhere that has reproduced this content online, if it is indeed OGC.

If it is OGC, I'd hope Paizo will add it to the PRD. Then I could use it.

Privateer Press had free sample OGC Gun rules posted on the web which covered four sample weapons (holdout pistol, military pistol, rifle, cannon) and the rules for using them here:
http://sites.privateerpress.com/docs/privateer_firearms.pdf

Of course, it also had rules for rapid reloading firearms, auto-loaders, speed loaders, customized weapons, bayonets and special ammo under it's 3.5 OGL line.

In comparison, the Arquebus presented here seems fairly balanced as a weapon especially when compared with Privateer Press' rifle.

Military Rifle:
A basic military rifle is usually between 3 and 4 ft. in
length. Rifle regiments are quite rare.
1200 gp, damage 2d8 piercing, reload 2S/DC12, crit 19–20/x3, range 200 ft., 15 lb.
