Favored Class, who gets it and what are the choices?

Rules Questions

There seem to be a number of ambiguities with the Favored Class mechanic. What is clear is that all characters get a choice of Favored Class at 1st level which does not need to be the class taken at level 1 but cannot be a prestige class. With that in mind i have a number of questions I can't find answers to in the book. If anyone can point me to any errata on the subject that would be appreciated.

• Does "all characters" mean NPC's as well or is this something meant for just player characters?

• If NPCs get this option can an NPC class such as Expert and Adept be chosen as a Favored Class?

• Do Monsters get this option?

• If Monsters do get this option can they choose their racial hit dice as their Favored Class?

• If Monster cannot choose their racial hit dice as their Favored Class do they only get this option if they add character classes or do they get it even they cannot apply it to anything?

Wierd, I answered this post earlier, but the original post and my reply disappeared, but since it is back, I'll try again. Just my feelings obviously.

NPC is Non-Player Character, so to me this indicates that they get them as well. I think if they did not, it would be spelled out. My feeling on it is that if an exception is not made, don't add them in unless you want to.

An NPC class is still a class, I think it should count for a favored class, and I have had players actually play NPC classes before.

I think as long as the monster has an int of 3 or more. Non-Sentient monsters don't. But a Goblin or Orc or Drow should.

A racial level acts in all ways like a class level. You get a hit die, skill points, class skills. I would say they qualify.

See above.

Sovereign Court

The Pathfinder conversion guide seems to suggest that everyone gets a favored class.
