Updating Bloodlines and ECL Monster Levels / Level Adjustments?

Is this necessary? Or is it fine just the way it is?

So I've been wondering this for a while now. Using the WotC Savage Species book, you can take any monster (pretty much), and over the course of the entire LA/CR, have your character buy it separately over the course of X number of levels. Half dragon is three, vampire is eight, medusa is 10, etc. Is that going to stay as is? I haven't really seen anything change that much from the Beastiary, but I guess we have to wait until next month for the monster book. At the same time, what about the bloodlines from UA? They add +1 to your caster level, but don't really give you much of anything. Are these fine the way they are? Should they have a little bit more added to them to actually make them worth taking when you see all of these PrCs suddenly have +1 existing spellcaster level when before they didn't? Maybe a +2 to an ability instead of just +1 and a feat.

Are these things that we'll be seeing in upcoming books?

Doubtful.

The Pathfinder stance on "monster" PCs is that this is something the GM needs to handle. You can't make a balanced system that accounts fairly for monster PCs, and there shouldn't be a system there that implies the PCs have a "right" to make monster PCs without GM approval.

So ECL goes bye bye. There's a section in the PCR gamemastering chapter that describes the new monster PC procedure (or lack thereof).

As for the bloodline variant, I don't see why it's effect should change. If it worked that way before, it should still work the same now, although I think the new Sorcerer Bloodlines in the PCR are cooler. It is a variant rule, so I wouldn't expect an official word on either of these.

In the end, these are two rules that don't really need updating. If you liked using ECL and savage species before, keep using it. I highly doubt that it needs much conversion, although dropping all ECLs by one has been recommended on the forums. Keep using your old book, and enjoy the money you didn't have to spend on a pointless retooling of rules you liked!

Okay, then going on that, what abou the paragons? Those are essentially class levels. Since they seemed relatively weak before hand, but still cool, how would you go about changing those? Maybe +1 existing spellcaster for 2nd and 3rd for half dragon, strong will for the half elf and elf paragons, and give the half elf an additional +1 existing spellcaster level at 3rd. Humans could have full BAB. What are some other good additions?
