I've been following the case here in Ohio of the girl who fled to Fl for fear of an honour killing.

I've ceased to be amazed by man's inhumanity to man.

Scarab Sages

Whenever I read of such stories, it makes me extremely angry. The people who commit this kind of crime deserve nothing less than to be treated like the inhuman scum that they are.

It also explains why we (The U.S./Nato/the U.N.) cannot just give up and leave Afghanistan.

By the way check out the group mentioned in the article:

Humanity. Just how much of it is humane?

I'm starting to formulate an idea in my head. Wouldn't it be cool to host like a MtG tournament or something at a local game store and donate all the proceeds to WAW. I think I'm going to talk to the owner of a game store in my area about maybe trying something like that.

We did something here that was smilar. We called it the Gameathon. $5 bucks got ou in and then it was 24 hours of gaming. We had scheduled games, or you could just grab a table and play MtG or anything you wanted. Local pizza joints donated food and drinks and the money all went to charity. The first year we raised $270, the second year it was $565, and the last year we held it we raised $1,090. The the store clod and we had no place to host it, so it died.

I talked to my local game store about it. The owner said that while he didn't have any particular objections to the idea, he would be more interested in supporting a local charity. However, if I decide to go through with it, he says he's willing to let me use his store for a charity event.

I think what I'm going to do is start with a more local charity first, generate some interest in that, and then hopefully, if the event is successful, work to expand people's horizons in future years. For example, there's an organization called Gamers for Humanity, that looks like a really good group. They helped people out in New Orleans after Hurrican Katrina, and they work closely with Habitat for Humanity to help build houses and stuff. I think the fact that they're a bunch of gamers too will help people identify more with the charity.

Anyway, that's my plan. Wish me luck!
