Quick question.....Why do Stirges now get a Stealth score of +16, they are +14 in the d20srd, which matches their 18 Dex.

Because the way skills work and are calculated in the Pathfinder RPG is different than they way they're calculated in 3.5.

1 skill rank = +1
Class skill = +3
Dex = +4
Size = +8

Total = +16

Thanks James, thought it would be something like that. Wouldn't the 3.5 version have:

4 skill ranks = +4, Dex = +4, Size = +8 = 16 though in that case? Or did they get/use less skill ranks?

Liberty's Edge

The 3.5 stirge has 2 ranks in Hide, and 1 rank each in Spot and Listen.

Ah, I see.

To take it a step further....where is it defined how many skill points (or ranks) a monster gets?

I get for things with class levels, but what about the rest?

Monsters get a number of skill points based on their type times the number of hit dice they possess. This will be in the Bestiary.

Unless things have changed substantially from 3.5, this is modified by their Int mod, so Int 1 or 2 monsters will pretty much always have 1 skill point per HD. (In 3.5, monsters did get the x4 for their first HD, which is how the stirge have 4 skill points to spend.)
