Is that the ticking clock I'm under to scrape together the scratch to get my rulebook and pdf?

Yup. You have until the release of the Bestiary to start your RPG Sub with the Core Rulebook. We are currently expecting the Bestiary to come in and start shipping out in early October.
To put it in the exact, technical, and subscription-neutral terms: Whenever you start a subscription, you can choose to either start with the most-recently-shipped volume, or the next volume. As soon as a new volume ships, the previous volume in teh subscription is no longer eligible to be a subscription purchase, and therefore does not get the subscription discount (if applicable) and the PDF must be purchased separately (if applicable).
