Question Regarding a first level Paladin build

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Okay, I built this Paladin with Hero Lab. I gave the critter a longsword and a heavy crossbow. The heavy crossbow shows a -5 attack modifier. I can't figure out why. Is it a weapon proficiency issue?

Nope. The program is incorrect. You should have a +1 to attack.

You got more problems than that buddy your long sword is wrong too. It should be +3 instead of +1... I think maybe somehow the program thought you were two weapon fighting? The penalties still aren't right but that's the best I got...

Maybe it thought you were going to try and fire the crossbow one handed while using the shield.

Also the AC isn't right either. You got a shield and chain mail right? That should be an AC of 18 with the shield...

I imagine something went wrong in the equipment section and it thinks: 1. You are not using the shield.
2. You are using a long sword
3. While using a heavy crossbow.

However this doesn't "fix" the math as the penalties should be much higher in that case.

Thanks! I thought I was going nuts.

Liberty's Edge

I think it might be assuming you are shooting the crossbow one-handed and using your gauntlet in your other hand, but I'm not sure. It's weird.

EDIT: ninja'd. Looks like me and Abraham are on the same page here.

Yeah, I had the shield deselected so I could use both hands with the crossbow. That's why the AC was off.

Agree on the +3 melee bonus. I have a note on the Hero Lab board as well.

Hmm, is this an encumbrance penalty? Table 7-5 on page 171 says -3 check for medium encumbrance. Does encumbrance affect melee? Skills? Etc?

The helpful folks at the Lonewolf (Herolab.) forum pointed out that I selected weapons for small creatures, instead of medium sized creatures. That difference causes a -2 penalty! So, give back the hobbit sized crossbow.
