In the table located on page 563 that gives the different modifiers to the DC to pinpoint an invisible creature with a Perception check. It states the modifier for the invisible creature to be a -40 if "Not moving". This confuses me, the rest of the modifiers get progressively larger from -5 to -20 for moving slowly to moving really fast. Shouldn't the modifier for effectively standing still be some sort of bonus? At the very least I should think it wouldn't hurt them more than charging or attacking someone.

I don't have the book but it sounds like 3.5. If you are invisible and standing still, you get +40 to your hide check. If you are moving you get +20 and if you are charging full speed at someone, I guess you only get a +5.
Invisibility effectively works like the movie Preditor. Especially if you are moving, you cause a distortion that can be noticed with a high enough spot check. You are still invisible, though. This is just the check to notice the distortion. If you run away, then stand still, chances are they won't be able to locate you.

Except that the table is the modifiers for the DC that must be overcome in order to pinpoint an invisible creatures location. Meaning apparently he is really easy to percieve if he's not moving.
I'm fairly sure it's a typo, a necesary errata change that wasn't caught yet.

This is exactly the question I was coming to ask. My fellow gamers and I decided it should be either +40 (as described above) or was intended to be the base case of +0 (DC 20 with the standard +20 adjustment to the DC for pinpointing, to give a total of DC 40.)
I think it is the latter. Others think it is the former. No one thinks it should be -40 to the DC (for an effective pinpointing DC = 0!)
