Does anybody use Heroscape minis for D&D?
The bases of the Heroscape figures are about 1.5" in diameter and don't jive with the 1" gridlines on most boards.
I've thought about removing the characters from their bases and putting them on smaller bases, but they're glued on so darn well.
Any clever/easy/quick ways to remove the characters from the bases?
Any idea where new bases can be obtained?
I supposed that the bases themselves could just be cut or sanded down to size, but I'm trying not to be too destructive.
I also thought about just using a larger grid with 1.5" lines, but then that screws up the sizing for large, huge and gargantuan figures.
Can anybody think of another effective method for modding these Heroscape minis?

You might want to hit up www.heroscapers.com for some good info on doing the bases. They have a few dozen different methods for modifying the characters and the terrain.
Personally, I don't think that the larger bases really effect much. Especially since the figure are so awesome.

We've used unmodified heroscape minis in the past when we were short of our normal minis or playing unexpectedly, and we really didn't run into any issues. I suppose if you're closely crowded in a tight battlefield where it was crucial to have the minis on the board it might be an issue, but we never really had an issue. :)

Heya. Yeah, I've got two boxes of the HS game and a bunch of the additional figure sets...though I didn't keep up with some of the later sets. The bases are a bit large but I've never had a great deal of trouble using them with my 1" grid...maybe a bigger issues with the "large" creatures that are based on two side-by-side hexes rather than a 2x2 square. Still, I just put them crossways in the large space and people know what I'm intending.
That said, rebasing the minis could make them look *extremely* cool. They're already pretty sweet for plastic minis but a nice base makes any mini look better. I'm not near my minis right now but I expect some deft hacking near the feet with an X-acto could separate them. If I remember there's sometimes a great dollop of glue there, which could make things worse. For my uses the original bases are fine though.
BTW, the terrain is great for other hex-based games (GURPS, etc.)

I use the GW baes for my medium and large bases. I've based Heroclix and LotR Sabertooth minis for them.
I bought a bunch of heroclix for a battletech game. Only have one mapsheet, but it makes it easier for the roomie to keep track of terrain and elevation. Plus it looks cool.

My friend has had success doing the same with the Heroclix minis.

I've a moonknight from the Avengers set I need to finish. Going to put a scimitar and or an axe in his hands. should look good, even with my meager painting skills. Might use him as some kind of Osiron assassin

Use and X-acto knife, take your time and cut away from yourself. :) Then use a washer like the other person said. I have a bunch of one inch bases that warhammer put out years ago [don't know if they are still available]. Been using same technique on Hero-clix superheroes for Champions game for years and works well.
