Pathfinder Urban Arcana

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Liberty's Edge

So our group has been playing Urban Arcana lately, and we've always hated Department 7. Not its purpose or its goals or anything, but its flavor. So we've decided to replace it, with the Pathfinder Society.

The Pathfinder Society

The Pathfinder Society is believed to have come across to Earth from Shadow only as recently as the Victorian Age. It presents itself as a fraternal organization much like the Elks. Pathfinder recruits generally come from those newly made aware of the presence of Shadow and are willing to act in a manner appropriate to the goals of the Society.

As an organization the Pathfinders keep tabs on the local going-ons of the Shadow world and its intermingling with Earth, and getting involved whenever magical forces become a threat. Each Pathfinder Lodge is run by a Venture Captain, chosen by the mysterious Decemvirate. The Venture Captains coordinate the teams of Pathfinders in their assigned region, but most groups of Pathfinders are given a pretty loose leash. Venture Captains rarely end up being more than givers of advice, news and knowledge about the shadow.

The Venture Captains are also in charge of maintaining the local Lodge. Appearances of lodges vary depending on the taste of the Venture Captain. Lodges take the appearance of diners, pubs, bookstores, or even a traditional hunting lodge.

The society's chief resource is its vast organization of operatives spread throughout the world, and maintain a friendly if detached connection to other organizations such as The Displaced and the Order of St. Iomedae.

New FX Item:
Wayfinder

A frequent personal item of many Pathfinders the Wayfinder looks like an enlarged LG enV2 and contains many of the features found on modern cellphones (cellphone, internet access, camera, music and data storage) but requires no contract and works anywhere in the world, even underground where reception for a normal cellphone would be impossible. The cellphone's most unique feature however is its ability to provide a map of the user's current position, giving the layout of buildings, parks, even sewer systems. (We use the Wayfinder as a way of making using battlemats in-char knowledge).

In addition, artificers working for the Society have come up with modular attachments that can be added to the Wayfinder (I'll detail these another time).

Type: Wondrous Item (magic); Caster level 5th; Purchase DC: - (usually given to Society members after their first official report is accepted). Weight: -

I'll do the Red Mantis in a day or two if people are interested.

Scarab Sages

Very cool idea!

Really cool.
By all means I would love to see your take on a modern version of the red mantis.

I have been running a d20 modern urban arcana/shadow chasers game for a while now. I welcome new ideas that I can barrow. :)
