Hi there,
Sorry if this question seems a bit long.
I have preordered a number of PFRPGs (10) in 3 separate orders (3, 3, 4) to avail myself of the 'breakpoint' for international shipping. I now wish to do one subscription of the PFRPG from these preorders. My understanding is that the subscription copy would be considered to be from the first preorder (in my case order number 1140194) and the postage recalculated.
In my case the postage for this preorder is $45.05, as it was ordered when it was thought that 3 copies would fit into the smaller flat postage box. If the postage is recalculated it would increase to $57.65, the larger flat postage box. Or stay at $45.05 but only for two books, and my current August subscription postage would increase from $12.25 to $45.05 (oww). In this case could I request that my subscription items for August, with the current postage cost of $12.25 are added to the box of 3 PFRPGs. I am assuming they will fit as it is possible to fit an extra PFRPG book in. Then neither Paizo or myself are out of pocket.
Possible??
I would just like this clarified before I push the button for subscription.
Thanks
Sandra

When you create your subscription, one of those preordered PFRPG books will be canceled and the rest will go into your sidecart. Your subscription will then put it's first shipment (one PFRPG book) into your sidecart. You will then have 10 PFRPGs sitting in your sidecart, waiting until the PFRPG is released in August to ship with the first possible subscription shipment. This is in addition to all of the other items from your other subscriptions, and any store orders you may want to go with them, that will be shipping at that time.
By the time the PFRPG ships, the system will be smart enough to break the items in the sidecart up into multiple separate shipments so that the total shipping and handling cost is as low as possible.
You will not see this reflected on the site at this time. Gary is still in the process of training our recalcitrant system to do this.
Thanks,
cos

Ok Cos,
I have gone out on a limb and trusted you on this one.....but I really hope you are right, because currently it is showing over $200 in postage for August...I feel sick. I am really hoping I see it reduce, my calculation (based on the post above) is $160.35, which is expected.

Cos,
I would really like a guarentee on this one, as looking at it again, the postage has jumped to $267....This really makes it untenable to purchase the books though yourselves. Sorry to be a pain, but I am understandably (I think) nervous about this.

Well... as I said previously, Gary is still coding this feature into the system. So you aren't seeing it because it isn't there. Yet.
This is something, however, that Gary is determined to have in place for the launch of the Pathfinder RPG.
So I don't have anything concrete to show you at the moment. The good news is that it's June, and none of this is being charged or shipped until August. We have four more weeks (at least) until anything will happen with your subscription.
Therefore, I recommend this: Give us until the end of July. The new shipping system should be in place by then, or I will at least have a better chance of saying "Yes, it will happen" or (God forbid) "No, it won't be ready in time" with some certainty and time to make any necessary changes.
Alternatively... You can always explore your costs associated with canceling the subscription, acquiring the books locally, and just purchasing the PDFs from us (at $9.99 each). This may turn out to be your best alternative.
Thanks,
cos

Hi Cosmo,
I am going to go with the alternative, especially considering the cost of the PDF means that I can still get it on the release date. Could you please cancel my pre-orders and the Pathfinder RPG subscription. Don't worry, you will still have our sales, just not directly.
Thanks for all your patience and help on this.

I have canceled your subscription and your preorders for the PFRPG hardcover.
Don't forget to resubscribe after the PFRPG is released! Future books in the line will not be as heavy as the PFRPG, so they will not have as large a shipping and handling cost. :)
Thanks,

If there's anybody else in this boat, I'd just like to note that in any case, you'll get the order confirmation e-mail a few days before everything ships, so you'll have a chance to pull the plug before we charge your card should anything be awry.
Regardless, Gary is currently elbow-deep in the code implementing just this change, and we have every confidence that it will be in place well before the August shipments.

Feeling the pressure yet Gary? ;-)

Motivate him. Properly. I suggest that if he doesn't make it, his programming skills aren't quite up to the task, and he needs a training course.
I could teach him better programming with my "Implement a complete store front and back office application using MS Q Basic and GOTO" course. And yes, that's a threat. }>

Your optimism regarding Paizo website functioning within 5 minutes of PFRPG PDF release, let alone the server surviving August 13th makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside ;)
He can make it. He's not in charge of a virtual tabletop or anything. Or Duke Nukem Forever (which is the engine said tabletop is probably using).
