I don't think it'be a particularly bad idea, in fact it's a pretty good one cause I loved my genesis and dreamcast, plus sega makes games for every platform consistently so their bound to have the cash to develop one
what do y'all think?
Bad idea, they did well initially with their last attempt, the Dreamcast, but I believe they ended up taking a big loss financially because Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft were too much for them.

Given the lack of games, support, and relatively short lifecycles of Sega's last few consoles, I wouldn't buy a console of any type from Sega. The last competent and well supported system they released was the genesis.
Plus, their mascot is so transparently a product of Poochie inspired marketing, it's really hard to take them seriously. "He's a hedgehog, but he has spikey hair and sunglasses - which makes him edgy and hip!"

also, none of the other guys would let them develop games for their systems if sega had their own system. so, they would not be allowed to write games for wii, playstation or xbox if they also had their own system. if you look at game producers. you will see that sony, microsoft, and nintendo do not write games for other systems. so, its kind of like the gsl.
so, sega needs to consider more things than just available capital.
look at your game titles. ea does not have a system, lucas arts does not have a system, unless the game was written by the producer of the system, most games are availble for all systems. you wont find nintendo produced games for the xbox or playstation.

Just admit you loved Poochie.
The best quotes out of that episode sound like certain Paizo fans:
Comic Book Guy: Last night's Itchy & Scratchy was, without a doubt, the worst episode ever. Rest assured that I was on internet within minutes registering my disgust throughout the world.
Bart Simpson: Hey, I know it wasn't great, but what right do you have to complain?
Comic Book Guy: As a loyal viewer, I feel they owe me.
Bart Simpson: What? They've given you thousands of hours of entertainment for free. What could they possibly owe you? I mean, if anything, you owe them.
Comic Book Guy: Worst episode ever.
Hi. A question for Miss Bellamy. In episode 2F09 when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib twice in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is some sort of a magic xylophone or something? Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

I'm pretty certain that platform exclusivity is the product of the console manufacturer wanting a unique set of games to sell their console, not a prohibition from porting those games imposed by the owner of competing consoles. If nintendo announced their intent to port their first party titles to the xbox, microsoft would be thrilled.
Sega could continue making multiplatform titles, even if they released their own console. I just doubt they would want to.
