Need Prestige Suggestion?

What prestige class would you recommend for my Pathfinder player? He's got a female sorcerer with focus on evocation spells of the fire variety. She's a quiet, creepy PC, obsessed with learning arcane knowledge and speaks nasty draconic. She's the kind that scares small children away, and is pretty much a loner when not with the party. She's been given her own tower in the Baroness' castle as reward - and is currently seventh level.

What system and books are open to him? What about alignment?

Sovereign Court

Any reasonable v.3.5/Pathfinder/d20 book is potentially open. The PCs alignment is chaotic good with neutral tendencies.

The Exchange

How about Elemental Savant from Complete Arcane. You need energy sub(fire, acid, cold, or electricity), Knowledge Arcana 8 ranks, Knowledge (The Planes) 4 ranks, able to cast at least 3 spells with the chosen elemental descriptor one of which must be 3rd level, and you must have made peaceful contact with an elemental outsider. In most respects the class changes you into an elemental and you only lose 2 spellcasting levels (5th and 10th). It also automatically changes all spells you cast that deal damage into whatever element you chose when you entered the class, which means no extra casting time for sorcerers anymore, but you lose the ability to deal any other kind of damage (unless you have a wand/scroll/staff I think).

If the character ever shifts from CG to CN, she could take levels in the Fiend-Blooded prestige class from Heroes of Horror.

It's a 10-level class, poor BAB, good Will saves, gains +1 caster level each level except for L 10. Among the many nifty class features is one which adds an additional spell known at each even-numbered level (any spell with the fire descriptor or from the schools of enchantment, illusion, or necromancy) - great stuff for a Sorcerer, who per definition has a limited number of spells known. And those spells need not be arcane spells ...

Also, the Sorcerer's familiar can get the fiendish template - without having to become evil. That should be enough to scare the kids away! :)

And if you want to make someone's head hurt do it with lawful neutral and get a lantern archon as your familiar...

I don't know much about the character, but she may be hard-pressed to find a prestige. You almost have to build towards one from the beginning. Honestly, it sounds like your player has done some good character development already. So, any prestige class could work. Here are few that I checked out. Most are not very thematic to a fire sorcerer, but...

Blood Mage- Comp. Arc
Cast with your own blood. Thought of this because of the "dark" aspect of the character.
Daggerspell Mage- Comp. Adv.
Need rogue levels. Uses daggers and casts with them.
Dragon Disciple- DMG
Sorcerers can be connected to dragons. Maybe she has red dragon in her? Half-dragon or dragon-blooded template might serve better.
Elemental Savant- Comp. Arc.
Especially if she wants to really focus on fire
Exalted Arcanist- Book of Exalted Deeds
Can cast "good" spells and get some divine magic too I think.
Loremaster- DMG
She is into magical knowledge/study. Steep requirements for a sorcerer though.
Mindbender- Comp. Arc.
More about swaying/toying with others, but could fit.
Ultimate Magus- Comp. Mage
Need Wizard levels, but the class is kind of neat. Potentially VERY powerful too.
Wildmage- Comp. Arc.
Chaotic caster

I hope this is useful. Cheers!

You may want to check out the Sandshaper PrC from Sandstorm. You lose 2 caster levels, but add A LOT of spells to your know spells list. Also, some nifty class features, d6 HD, and 4 skill points per level.

Also, there are some nifty metamagic feats that allow you to cause fire damage that is so hot it affects critters normally immune or resistant to fire!

Since the character in question is arcane it would require a little re-fluffing , though this class could be easily adapted for that

Pyrokineticist.

Yes, that would indeed make my head hurt as a DM! I think that that particular sort of familiar would protest! :)

(Technically, IIRC, the familiar getting the fiendish template is an optional class feature.)

What a cool community... thanks for all the references!

I'd go with Tainted Scholar from Heroes of Horror. It gives you lots of lore, extra power, full caster progression, and the ability to scare small children and other people with blood magic and other creepy stuff. Of course it also necessitates using the Taint mechanic, but from the sound of it, your sorceress is already doing a fine job of it herself.

She could have even started it at sixth level, so if your DM allows you, you could even retrain her so that she'd have a couple levels to begin with.

Unearthed Arcana has a Tainted Sorcerer I stumbled across while flipping pages last night :) And that is one creepy looking gal!

Just had to check p192 out. What a creepy mix of hotness and disgusting taint. Thanks Gamer Girrl.

Yeah, but the familiar is part of you... it's not a regular 'creature' with it's own independent thoughts anymore. Animal companion... maybe, they are still just allies -- a familiar though is part of you.
