Link. Dark V, no more (last panel).

Well, that was inevitable. I was just wondering how long they were going to let the battle go on. Still...I wasn't expecting Xykon to take V out with a chunk of ceiling/wall/whatever.

Power gained too fast=Doom to the powerful!

I'm a little confused with this. V attacked because she had access to insane amounts of power. Is the idea that Xykon is even more powerful then V even when she has a soul splice. I mean I could understand it if Xykon simply outsmarted her after realizing what was going on but this seems to indicate that he simply out powered her.

Well V did do so damge with that Empowered Sunburst, but in the long haul Xykon was A)too strong and B)just playing with V.

Enteresting thought just popped in my head, especially with Tsukiko in this strip. After the fall of the city wasn't she looking for someone to turn into a really powerful undead? Could it be V? While not anywhere as powerful as s/he just was, making V sometype of undead would be a great idea.

Still Meteor Swarm; this is such a big kids game night.

Liberty's Edge

I notice that most posters are relying on Tsukiko's assessment of V's gender as female ;-)

I will regret the ambiguity.

My thoughts exactly, especially since (as someone mentioned above) Roy appeared to do far more damage to Xykon before falling to his death. That was just him, one-on-one with the lich, who we can only assume had about as much power then as he does now. Roy was "only" a 12th or 13th level warrior around then, it seemed. V, on the other hand, appears to have gained a few levels since his considerable might then, plus was using the soul splice... and was still next to useless?

I suppose the fact that Redcloak and Tsukiko were helping him made a difference, but they appeared to do little but give tactical advice. Then again, tactical advice is something Xykon usually ignores; so I could see that making the difference. It recalls the scene in the Azurite throne-room with all the ghost paladins, where Redcloak realized what was going on and turned the tide of battle with that information. The problem, however, is that Xykon has gotten along just fine without that tactical advice before (see Start of Darkness in particular). He's just so powerful that he feels free to play around with people. While it sometimes causes him to take some damage, he just gets pissed then and breaks out uber-spells and usually reveals that he has, in fact, had some kind of a plan all along and was just toying with his foe up to that point.

End result, I'm not sure what to make of this battle. Granted, Xykon was in his lair with traps and wards set up, and had a number of contingency plans in effect which countered even V's considerable might admirably; but it kind of makes the soul splice seem weak and/or Xykon so powerful that there's almost no way the Order of the Stick can hope to defeat him.

Spoiler:
All that being said, I love Xykon so damned much, particularly with the rock in the last panel!

I liked when Xykon had Redcloak cast speak with dead on a goblin to find his keys!

I hope some day we see a cameo from Bixby the archmage. :-)

Yes, because we know how that would go.

"I got bored with hand spells some time ago. Too many jokes."

"Really, what do you do now?"

*casts Bixby's transformation* "Wizard SMASH!"

:-)

Well, X has gotten a LOT of XP since he faced Roy.
