Okay Paizo.. Though I cannot afford it, I'll break down and get the UPS option for my AP. However, I need to know (before i actually change it) if i will be required to physically be there in order to get the delivery. Or will they stick it in my mailbox or leave it at my door?
Many times it depends on the UPS carrier. MOST ups carriers will leave it at the door without a problem. If there is a specific spot you wish to have them left, it is possible to leave a note on the door asking for deliveries to be placed (insert location here). Unless the seller specifically asks for a signature(paizo's orders never do), you should be fine with having UPS leave it at the door.
It depends on the area you live in. Some areas are "Driver Release" (meaning the UPS man can leave the package by your door if you're not home), and some are not. It depends on how secure UPS deems your neighborhood to be and how likely they think it is someone will come across your package and steal it. (Note that this is a corporate decision, NOT a decision an individual UPS person makes.)
That said, however, even if you're not in a DR area, if you leave a signed note on your door okaying the driver to leave the package, or instructing him to put it in a particular place or, if you're in an apartment, to leave it at the office (be sure and get an okay on this from the office first), they'll generally follow the instructions, since your signed note absolves them of responsibility. (When my husband was in an apartment, the UPS driver used to toss packages onto his second-floor balcony.)
The tracking information Paizo provides when it ships your order will give you a date to expect the package on so you can be prepared. If you're in a driver release area, you won't have to worry about it, but if you have a sticky note left on your door saying they tried to deliver a package but you weren't in, you can indicate on that note where you want the package left, and the driver will follow your instructions when he returns the next day.
