Guntar's Psicrystal: To the uninitated, Guntar's yet-unnamed psicrystal might appear to be a strange holy symbol or an abstract idol; Guntar rarely takes his psicrystal from his belt pouch when awake (he leaves it out next to him when he is asleep though). Gives Guntar Alertness feat and +3 to concentration rolls (being "Single-Minded"), speaks Maenad (if necessary, has been instructed to keep silent), Has improved evasion/self-propelling (30' or 20' climbing), share power, able deliver touch powers, 4 ranks in Spot/Listen/Move silently/Search, AC: 17, Hardness: 8, Init: +2, HP: 9, Dimintve. I finally added my equipment.

Everything appears in order, so as of now we have:

Kuhn-Duhn
Audric
Guntar

I'd like one or two more

Of the others, I'd say that the next most ready characters would be Sibeereussair (who only needs his background done), and both Sorya and Lian (who needs only their background and equipment done). Roland would need some more things though. And Sim would add the needed "skill-monkey" part to the party if he were to get written up.

Hmm. Tough location for characters without 'kill me' signs on their heads. Religion is bad juju, as is magic and Kalashtar...

Story, story... I don't know so much about Riedra, just what's in the ECS, which is that noone comes in and noone goes out, so she must be a native. She's very protective of her family. I'd imagine that weapons are probably harder to come by for normal-enough folk, so she learned to defend herself without the use of them. As she has...

Most of what I've gathered from Secrets of Sarlona is that there's four main areas: Adar- full of mountains, monasteries, and Kalashtars, Riedra- where the Inspired rule in a dystopian paradise, Skyarn- a freer realm where eneko (ogre-blooded) and humans cooexist, and Tashana tundra- where Akiaks (Duergar) and Shifters eke out a relatively cooperative existence in the cold.

As for Riedra proper, I sort of got the impression of "Growing up it all seems so one-sided. Opinions all provided. The future pre-decided. Detached and subdivided. In the mass production zone. Nowhere is the dreamer. Or the misfit so alone" (courtesy of Rush's song "Subdivisions", which can be found here or here ).

Some additional info or corrections that needed to be placed in Guntar's char sheet:

Some additional thoughts on background:

Spoiler:

The Khorvaire explorer's Tashana tundra expedition where Guntar learned to speak Khorvarian common had an unfortunate run-in with Kalak raiders- leading to the demise of some of Guntar's friends and expedition associates (both local and foreign); The treasure gained from the expedition included a mournlode weapon (greatsword) as a reward for the expedition, but it was a reward that Guntar couldn't really use- but that he could trade for (with considerable help from Saartuk go-betweens) from the Qiku/Akiak- gaining his MW spinning sword and darklight "lantern" in the process.

If Guntar arrived alone to Skyarn: Possibly was requested by certain parties to deliever some package of Icewild to Skyarn for some syrks (possibly as part of the trade deal with his weapon and lantern), making Guntar an unsuspecting and inadverdant "drug runner" of sorts; Guntar wouldn't know about Icewild being contraband by Riedra- but he wouldn't consider Icewild use to be a horrible thing (it is useful to keep moving in a cold environment lest death comes upon one) and the idea of Icewild being used "recreationally" would be a decidely foreign concept to him.

As for what Guntar knows of Khorvaire: He sympathizes with Cyre/Cyrans over the lost home bit (which Maenads can relate to)- assuming the Last War already ended, but not really all that much else- save that House Jorasco is a similar organization to the Healing Hands of Sarlona (the expedition lost their House Jorasco representative in the Kalak raid).

Guntar dislikes Kalak raiders and the Savage Legion shifters (and is suspicious of Riedra by extension, being the masters of the Savage Legion) and has adopted some trappings of Saartuk shifter culture- mainly the musical instrunment playing aspect.

And, as always, I'm open to suggestions from everyone else on making any changes or additions to any of the background stuff in order to help make for a better experience for everybody.

I'm very sorry, but it doesn't look like I will have the time to play in another pbp.

Sorry to hear that; best of luck to you in your other pbps.

And for everyone else, that means that there's still time to get a victi... erm, character in the game. ;)

Just in case some might find the idea of native Sarlonans or other Eberron denizens not a very good fit for their character concept...

Here's an idea for other new characters to this pbp that might be usable if Vorbis, the OP, would want to go along with this- the idea of some poor sap on, say, Golarion (or any other rpg setting for that matter) who, for reasons specified by the player, gets pulled thru and dumped into the Sarlonan area of Eberron during a planar storm.

May or may not be all that workable, but I thought I'd just throw it out there....

Yeah, or through the World Serpent Inn. It'd be cool if a gnome from Golarion came, but it turned out the Bleaching was contagious.

How about a kender from Dragonlance?

I could see something along the lines of: a nailed shut door (perhaps with a warning written in old sarlonan common scrawled on it) being inadvententaly opened up with a kender waiting behind it; turns out that the doorway connects to the World Serpent Inn- the eneko that discovered the doorway (and the kender) and made certain to nail shut the door some years past- many years later, the door gets opened, kender is still behind it (time passes differently- what was moments for a Kender on one side is years on the Riedran side) and chaos ensues.

For those who don't know what Kender are: they're variant halflings from the Dragonlance universe- people either love or hate 'em, no in betweens here- and their stats are similar to halflings excepts for things like: an extra -2 to wis, +2 to spot, open locks, and sleight of hand, -4 to concentration, +4 bluff if used for "taunting" only, immune to all fear (magic or natural)- at least in the 3.5 version of them. Kenders can breed with humans too. They're also subconsious kleptomaniacs (with any number of items "ending up" mysteriously in a kender's pockets). There's also such things as "afflicted" kenders, who lost their home to a red dragon, and are "emo" (and are closer to regular halflings too, statwise).

I can see a kender wanting to pocket Guntar's psicrystal and riling up the enekos of Skyarn with tauntings. ;)

Ayup. The DM will be happy that I brought this up again.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16

Are you still open?

I have a few character Ideas I'd like to explore.

Looks like the party might need a healer.

Well, you should be fine as long as the DM shows back up! Oh, and we can use a healer of some sort.

While I can't speak for the Op/Dm, I'm sure it couldn't hurt to post up your character for pending approval. ;)

Kobold Cleaver wrote:

Heh- you could post up the kender character in addition to your kenku one; I mean, what's the worst that can happen? (Other than the Dm loudly proclaiming in a very stern voice that you'd be forbidden from ever introducing another kender into the Eberron universe, that is)

I'm sure he'll show; why, I can put up this youtube clip for no reason whatsoever in order to get his undivided attention. ;P

Here's the kender, I'm thinking about a spellthief from Book of Roguish Luck. If that can't work (and for some reason the kender can)it'll be something else.

Whoops.

Out of pure curiosity, what would the difference be between Wotc's 3.5 spellthief and the spellthief from Book of Roguish Luck? ;)

I don't know, my copy of CA is missing.

Well, I have a copy of Complete Adventurer sitting very near to me, so why don't you just describe the class features and we'll see how different they are. :P

Heh, I actually thought it was Complete Arcane. Convenient that they have the same initials.

Unfortunately, now I can't find the BoRL. I'll look later, though I may have to settle for the CA version.

Liberty's Edge

i'll sneak in on this one if at all possible.

i've been itching for another pbp.

All you has to do is to put up a character- that's what I did. ;)

Oh, and the DM hasn't posted anywhere since mid-June, so we may need to dig up another one.

Davi The Eccentric wrote:

Hmm, would it help if I were to bring up the subject of tentacled aberrations?

Heh, on a more serious note, I'm sure he'll show up again once this topic gets a few more completed characters on board.

I've never played a pbp before but I'm willing to give it a go if ya need more people. Just tell me what I need to do.

Xabulba wrote:

Pretty easy, all you have to do is to put up a character that you wish to play, fully outfitted and with a small background blurb (could apply to just about any pbp with openings, really)- least that's what I got from Vorbis.

Aaaand I'm done!
