Gearing up for RotRL - Woo Hoo!

Rise of the Runelords

It looks like I’m about to start a group through the Rise of the Runelords campaign, and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ve been wanting to run this campaign since I started receiving the installments on my subscription almost two years ago - w00t!

Taking a quick look around I’m jazzed about all the community support/advice on the boards – my Savage Tide campaign has been so much richer for the help on the boards.

Before I get started, are there any must-have Paizo supplements I should look at getting before we get started on this? I haven’t been following the Chronicles materials, or really anything else Pathfinder outside of the Aps (Didn’t seem prudent as I wasn’t running anything in Golarion). Any and all advice is more than welcome.

Thanks!

Have fun! I can relate, as I just started RotR in December, and CotCT 3 weeks ago (different groups). I don't remember the last time that I was that excited about starting campaigns.

Be sure to check out the GM Reference threads for errata and clarifications.

And look around for all of the great community created stuff, like battle maps, and the Goblin Song recording.

As far as Chronicles products, you don't really need any for RotR, but the Campaign Guide or Gazetteer might help, and Classic Monsters Revisited gives more detail on Goblins, Ogres, etc.

I agree with Mr. Rambler about Classic Monsters Revisited. Some of the critters in RotRL just have page numbers for the Monster Manual without a lot of cultural stuff, and CMR really gives the flavour you need to give them that Golarion feel.

Dark Archive

Get the Goblin Miniatures! And all the other RotRL minis as well. But the goblins are the most important.

Other than that, just read, read, read what has been posted on the messageboards. Most important in RotRL, you should make sure to read up on the boards on #3 - Hook Mountain Massacre. Nick Logue accidentally wrote it too long, and a third of of had to be cut. That leaves a lot of inconsistencies, but they are mostly clarified on the boards.

Liberty's Edge

Woo! I'm just about to start a new RotRL campaign as well. Should take off in a week or two.

The only must have material I can think of besides the AP books are all the things on these boards. I've seen so much material that's all so great. I wish I'd made a consolidated list to keep straight what idea was on which thread because sometimes I'll remember a great idea someone posted, and then be unable to find it.

Good luck with the campaign!

Yeah we are hoping to start this month too

Once my brother divorce goes to court

I'm starting very soon as well! And as many of you, I've never been so excited to begin DMing a campaign!

Scarab Sages

Another voice added to the chorus -- I've got a campaign finishing up in a month or two and I plan to start them on RotRL.

I'm currently running a different group through CotCT and all I can say is, "Yowzah!" The adventures themselves are VERY well-written and the players are having a great time. I'm doing a PRPG conversion on the fly so the PCs were a bit overpowered through the first book, but at the end of the second book they hit a triad of CR8/CR9 baddies that are causing some serious concern amongst the players. Our session last night killed the party monk, the wizard's familiar (although his snake is back up now), and the party paladin went down three times! (It's handy to have healers standing nearby with wands!)

I can't wait for the RotRL AP to begin...!

It looks like next Saturday will be our first game now if my players could just settle on what they are playing for sure and there backgrounds
